Investigation on Rupture Initiation and Propagation of Traffic Tunnel under Seismic Excitation Based on Acoustic Emission Technology [PDF]
Traffic tunnels are important engineering structures in transportation, and their stability is critical to traffic safety. In particular, when these tunnels are in an earthquake-prone area, the rupture process under seismic excitation needs to be studied

Stochastic excitation of seismic waves by a hurricane [PDF]
AbstractWe investigate how a tropical cyclone (Hurricane Isaac in 2012) generated seismic ground motions using seismic and barometric data from the Earthscope network. In the frequency band 0.01–0.02 Hz, seismic and surface pressure amplitudes show a systematic decreasing trend with distance from the center of the hurricane.

Seismic response of the long-span steel truss arch bridge with the thrust under multidimensional excitation [PDF]
Purpose – Under different ground motion excitation modes, the spatial coupling effect of seismic response for the arch bridge with thrust, seismic weak parts and the internal force components of the control section of main arch ribs are analyzed.

Excitation mechanisms for Jovian seismic modes [PDF]
Recent (2011) results from the Nice Observatory indicate the existence of global seismic modes on Jupiter in the frequency range between 0.7 and 1.5mHz with amplitudes of tens of cm/s. Currently, the driving force behind these modes is a mystery; the measured amplitudes are many orders of magnitude larger than anticipated based on theory analogous to ...

Evaluation of seismic responses of an arch dam under non-uniform ground motion using random vibration [PDF]
To investigate the seismic responses of dams due to ground non uniform displacements, the records of earthquake displacements are required. Such data is seldom recorded during a specific earthquake and in the most cases the recorded data in not ...

Seismic excitation of the polar motion, 1977–1993 [PDF]
The mass redistribution in the earth as a result of an earthquake faulting changes the earth’s inertia tensor, and hence its rotation. Using the complete formulae developed by CHao and GRoss (1987) based on the normal mode theory, we calculated the earthquake-induced polar motion excitation for the largest 11,015 earthquakes that occurred during 1977.0–
