Seismic hazard assessment in Panama
Engineering Geology, 1997Abstract In this study we have created a set of three iso-acceleration maps for the Isthmus of Panama. These maps represent the expected peak ground acceleration (PGA) values, at soil sites, for annual exceedance probabilities of 0.004, 0.002 and 0.001, which correspond to return periods of 250, 500 and 1000 years, respectively.

Seismic hazard assessment for Cyprus
Journal of Seismology, 2009In the present study, probabilistic seismic hazard assessment was conducted for Cyprus based on several new results: a new comprehensive earthquake catalog, seismic source models based on new research, and new attenuation relationships. Peak ground acceleration distributions obtained for a return period of 475 years for rock conditions indicate high ...

Seismic Hazard Assessment for Bucharest
2018In this section, a ground motion model is derived specifically for the Bucharest area using a dataset consisting of both recorded and simulated ground motions from Vrancea intermediate-depth earthquakes. The proposed ground motion model is able to capture the significant long-period spectral ordinates generated by the large magnitude Vrancea ...

Seismic hazard and risk assessment
2011The prediction program in China has provided useful experience and taught many lessons. The most important lesson is that, regardless of its future potential, it is presently impractical to rely on prediction to prevent earthquake disasters. The practical approach is to strengthen the resilience of our built environment based on an assessment of ...

Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment without source characterization
2010Conventional Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) is difficult to apply in regions lacking sufficient information of the geological setting, active faults, and so forth. Also, for a site-specific PSHA, site effects arising from both crustal rock and overlying soil sediments are generally not assessed rigorously.

Geodata for Seismic Hazard Assessments
2014This paper describes the types of additional geodata, which can be used to supplement ‘standard’ data sets relating to landslides; these additional data enable more precise assessments of the landslide hazard and the associated potential risk.
