Research progress and current status of dynamic wave propagation characteristics in rock mass: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Performance Evaluation of Seismic Isolation System by Installation Location in Lighthouse Structures

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2018
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the applicability of seismic isolation devices for marine accidents under seismic loads. The lighthouse structure is a very important facility when the ship approaches the port.

Seismic analysis and design of tunnels within fault ground: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The research methods of seismic response of tunnels within fault ground, including field investigations, analytical solutions, physical experiments, and numerical simulations, and seismic countermeasures are discussed. The present study examines the shortcomings and limitations of the current research and design, and puts forward proposals for future ...

Preliminary analysis of the isolation performance for an anti-overturning and wind resistant high-rise isolation structure with upright horizontal isolation layer top hinged

open access: yes上海师范大学学报. 自然科学版
By adopting seismic isolation measures, the seismic isolation effect of high-rise structures was often unsatisfactory due to factors such as poor tensile strength of isolation bearings and relatively long natural vibration period of the seismic structure.

Thermal‐induced fracture evolution and acoustic signature of Beishan granite: Insights into tensile strength of barrier system for high‐level radioactive waste disposal

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The tensile strength of granite, a proposed host for nuclear waste, degrades severely above 400°C. We link this to specific microcracking patterns captured by acoustic emission, establishing a scientific basis for assessing repository safety under thermal load.

Study on seismic isolation performance of composite foundation based on seismic metamaterial theory under near-fault ground motion

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
Near-fault ground motions exhibit long-period velocity pulses and large-amplitude vertical components, obviously increasing structural damage. A seismic metamaterial composite foundation (SMCF) is proposed and investigated to achieve simultaneous ...

Enhanced Seismic Protection System for an Emergency Diesel Generator Unit

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Nuclear power plants are required to maintain operation after an earthquake, leading to a safe shutdown if necessary. In the case of a loss of offsite power, the onsite emergency diesel generator is critical to ensure procedural operations of the nuclear

Comparative structural response of two steel bridges constructed 100 years apart

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents a comparative numerical analysis of the structural behaviour and seismic performance of two existing steel bridges, the Infiernillo II Bridge and the Pinhao Bridge, one located in Mexico and the other in Portugal. The two bridges have

Climatic drivers prevail in montane and lowland Odonata latitudinal diversity gradients, but human modification erodes lowland patterns

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Latitudinal diversity gradients (LDGs) arise from the interplay of historical, ecological, and evolutionary processes, yet these drivers may differ across landforms. Mountains, with steep elevational and climatic gradients, often sustain distinct diversity dynamics compared with adjacent lowlands, where vertical climatic gradients are weak and human ...
