The Glacial Legacy of the Geneva Basin: Morphology and implications of an intricate tunnel valley system revealed from 3D seismic data

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Like other perialpine basins and glaciated margins, the Geneva Basin in SW Switzerland is characterised by buried tunnel valleys, which are elongated incisions widely attributed to subglacial meltwater erosion beneath continental ice sheets. However, an inclusive understanding of the geological control on the evolution of the glacial landscape

A novel approach for in situ benthic habitat characterization

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Habitat heterogeneity is a key driver of temporal and spatial variability of subtidal marine benthic biodiversity. However, this makes it a challenging environment in which to measure and quantify the factors driving biodiversity in a consistent manner.

Formation and evolution mechanism of the ancient landslide and stability evaluation of the accumulation body in Jiangdingya, Zhouqu County, Guansu Province

open access: yes地质科技通报
Objective The resurrections of ancient landslide deposits are one of the primary geological hazards in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and surrounding areas of China and pose significant safety threats to major transportation and water conservancy projects ...

Seismic hydrodynamic load analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Zangar's method for computation of seismic hydrodynamic loads acting at the inclined contour of a concrete gravity dam, has been reconsidered. Several numerical models are compared with the procedure recommended by Zangar, and a new regression formula is proposed, that eliminates the observed discrepancies.

Evaluation of Vertical Seismic Load Effects Specified in the United States Building Code [PDF]

open access: yes
This study evaluates the efficacy of two alternative methods for estimating vertical seismic load effects (Ev), which are specified in United States building codes (e.g., ASCE 7-22) and guidelines, and employed in the seismic design of structures.

A Coupled Extended Finite Element–Cohesive Zone Model for Hydraulic Fracture Propagation Under Poroelastic Effects Across Different Propagation Regimes

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing remains challenging due to the strong coupling between geomechanics and fluid flow when modelling multiple physical mechanisms of rock deformation, fracture evolution and fluid leak‐off. This study develops a coupled hydraulic fracture propagation framework that combines the extended finite element ...

Numerical Modeling of Geological Fault Reactivation Using Sequential Coupling Strategies

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The interaction between fluid flow and mechanical deformation in fault zones can lead to processes of fault reactivation, triggering potential geomechanical problems such as seismicity, well collapse, fluid migration to shallower layers, and aggravated surface subsidence.
