Seismic Fragility Analysis of Pile-Supported Wharves Subjected to Bi-Directional Ground Motions

open access: yesBuildings
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the angle of seismic incidence on the fragility of regular pile-supported wharves. The investigation is performed by selecting the displacement demand at the deck level of critical piles located at ...

Multifactorial Screening for Fine‐Scale Selection of CCS Industrial Clusters and Hubs in Brazil

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Brazil moves toward implementing its decarbonization commitments, carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs are emerging as a key pathway for large‐scale CO2 abatement in hard‐to‐abate sectors. This paper presents a multifactorial, data‐driven framework to screen and prioritize potential CCS industrial clusters and hubs across Brazilian regions,

Response Analysis of an RC Cooling Tower Under Seismic and Windstorm Effects

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2006
The paper compares the RC structure of a cooling tower unit under seismic loads and under strong wind loads. The calculated values of the envelopes of the displacements and the internal forces due to seismic loading states are compared with the envelopes

Seismic Performance Assessment of Gravity Dams for Urban Flood Risk Mitigation Using the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method (SBFEM)

open access: yesHydrology
Rapid urbanization and climate change have intensified urban flood risks, necessitating resilient upstream infrastructure to ensure metropolitan water security and effective flood mitigation. Gravity dams, as critical components of urban flood protection

Mesozoic–Cenozoic Thermochronology of the Tarim–Southern Tianshan System, NW China

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Tectonothermal history of the Tarim–Southern Tianshan system compared with the major tectonic events at far‐field plate margins. ABSTRACT The Tarim Basin, an oil‐bearing basin in northwest China, is tectonically and sedimentologically linked to the Southern Tianshan Orogenic Belt.

Multiphase Tectonic Process With Slab Dynamics in the Northern East China Sea Shelf Basin

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Megasequence 1 characterised by Palaeocene extension and differential subsidence driven by the rollback of the subducting Izanagi Plate. Megasequence 2 records a kinematic reorganisation of the East Asian margin, transition from a rifting to a compressional regime.

Stochastic Analysis to Predict Reliability Index of a Tall Building Structure

open access: yesENP Engineering Science Journal
In this paper, stochastic analyses are performed to predict the failure probability and reliability index of tall building structures with random parameters under random seismic loading conditions using traditional  Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method ...

The Glacial Legacy of the Geneva Basin: Morphology and implications of an intricate tunnel valley system revealed from 3D seismic data

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Like other perialpine basins and glaciated margins, the Geneva Basin in SW Switzerland is characterised by buried tunnel valleys, which are elongated incisions widely attributed to subglacial meltwater erosion beneath continental ice sheets. However, an inclusive understanding of the geological control on the evolution of the glacial landscape

Seismic hydrodynamic load analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Zangar's method for computation of seismic hydrodynamic loads acting at the inclined contour of a concrete gravity dam, has been reconsidered. Several numerical models are compared with the procedure recommended by Zangar, and a new regression formula is proposed, that eliminates the observed discrepancies.

A novel approach for in situ benthic habitat characterization

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Habitat heterogeneity is a key driver of temporal and spatial variability of subtidal marine benthic biodiversity. However, this makes it a challenging environment in which to measure and quantify the factors driving biodiversity in a consistent manner.
