Three‐parameter kinematic theory for shear assessment of reinforced concrete short columns

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This work presents a rational kinematics‐based model for assessing the shear capacity of rectangular reinforced concrete short columns. Due to their high stiffness and brittleness, short columns are particularly vulnerable to seismic forces, often exhibiting critical failures.

Application of 2D Variational Mode Decomposition Method in Seismic Signal Denoising

open access: yesElektronika ir Elektrotechnika
Seismic data are typical nonlinear and nonstationary data. In the acquisition and processing of seismic data, many factors interfere with it. Seismic data contain both effective waves and random noises, seriously affecting the quality of seismic data and

Deflection‐based assessment of residual prestress in simply‐supported bridges accounting for creep variability

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Several test methods have been proposed in the literature for measuring the level of residual prestress, most of them involving either semi‐ or fully destructive techniques for local measurements which could be highly sensitive to boundary conditions and execution details.

Pickin' up good vibrations: a systematic review of footfall detection and analysis in the realm of wildlife surveying

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Exploration of new wildlife surveying methodologies that leverage advances in sensor technology and machine learning has led to tentative research into the application of seismology techniques. This, most commonly, involves the deployment of a footfall trap – a seismic sensor and data logger customised for wildlife footfall.

Soil Profiles and Seismic Loading

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2006
The contribution estimates different geotechnical profiles of site condition change and their influences on the computed seismic response spectra and time histories final values and forms applying on the seismic structures loading. The mentioned problems methodics attitude solution is based on the computed seismic motion parameters.

The Multilevel Implications of a Sinn Féin Government in Ireland

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, Volume 96, Issue 1, Page 173-179, January/March 2025.
Abstract The electoral growth of Sinn Féin on both sides of the Irish border has generated much political and academic attention in recent years. The party could form part of the government in Dublin for the first time at the next Irish general election, though that outcome is far from certain.

The Coloniality of Data: Police Databases and the Rationalization of Surveillance from Colonial Vietnam to the Modern Carceral State

open access: yesThe British Journal of Sociology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tracing the early adoption of computer gang databases by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles Police Department in the 1980s to the deployment of computationally‐assisted surveillance during the Vietnam War, this paper uses a genealogical approach to compare surveillance technologies developed across the arc of ...

Investigating the Impact of a Chronic Disease Management Protocol on Reducing the Need for Dental General Anaesthesia for Treating Early Childhood Caries in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Dental Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background An increasing number of children are being admitted to hospitals for dental general anaesthesia (GA). This study investigated the effects of a chronic disease management (CDM) protocol on rates of dental treatment under GA for Early Childhood Caries (ECC).

Inerter-enhanced trench-based seismic metamaterial in soils with multiple impedance contrasts for seismic wave diversion and attenuation

open access: yesResults in Engineering
While seismic metamaterials have been widely studied in homogeneous soil half-spaces and increasingly in layered media, the influence of multiple, deep impedance contrasts typical of realistic geotechnical site profiles on low-frequency surface wave ...
