The Coloniality of Data: Police Databases and the Rationalization of Surveillance from Colonial Vietnam to the Modern Carceral State

open access: yesThe British Journal of Sociology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tracing the early adoption of computer gang databases by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles Police Department in the 1980s to the deployment of computationally‐assisted surveillance during the Vietnam War, this paper uses a genealogical approach to compare surveillance technologies developed across the arc of ...

Method for upgrading isolated bridges with novel V gaped devices: Seismic tests of models

open access: yesGrađevinar
A method for enhancing the seismic performance of isolated bridges was developed using innovative vertical multigap (V-MG) devices based on extensive experimental and analytical research.

Investigating the Impact of a Chronic Disease Management Protocol on Reducing the Need for Dental General Anaesthesia for Treating Early Childhood Caries in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Dental Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background An increasing number of children are being admitted to hospitals for dental general anaesthesia (GA). This study investigated the effects of a chronic disease management (CDM) protocol on rates of dental treatment under GA for Early Childhood Caries (ECC).

Significant Far‐Right Challenges to Australian Society? The XYZ and AustraliaOne

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Scholars who analyse the Australian far‐right from a criminological or security studies perspective propose that activists and groups pose ‘political’ challenges to Australian society. This paper examines the far‐right news website The XYZ and the AustraliaOne political party, and argues that claims that the far‐right may normalise ...

Estimating the Impact of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Policies on FDI Inflows Into Australia

open access: yesAsian-Pacific Economic Literature, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To what extent FDI policy settings and changes influence FDI inflows is an empirical question for which global answers are scarce. Australia is a pertinent locale to test this question, having a long history of attracting FDI and a policy approach distinct from most developed countries.

Depositional processes of varved sediments from proglacial Lago Frías since 1800 CE (North Patagonian Andes, Argentina)

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The glacierized Valle Frías in Northern Patagonia is one of the best‐studied valleys in South America and includes varved sediments from Lago Frías. We complement this lacustrine record with a high‐resolution documentation of varve counts and their composition.

Dragonfly functional connectivity responses are dynamic relative to drought

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
During drought, dragonfly species richness decreases. Yet, dragonfly assemblages show a higher propensity for dispersal during drought. Dispersal pathways vary among the wet and dry periods, and relative to temporal changes in the landscape. While some dragonfly species can traverse plantation compartments, conservation corridors facilitate functional ...

Review on seismic response of tunnel engineering: from dynamic characteristics of rock mass to structural earthquake-resistant analysis

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
Although tunnel structures are confined by the surrounding strata, and relative movement between the structure and strata is not obvious under seismic loads, resulting in significantly superior seismic performance compared to surface structures, they are

Dragonfly taxonomic and functional responses to urbanized streams in southeastern Europe, with management recommendations

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Urbanization drives turnover in dragonfly species composition, traits, and habitat conservation value. Natural stream sections have a higher conservation value (higher DBI) due to presence of specialists. Properly managed urban streams can support diverse dragonfly assemblages.
