Application of 9-component S-wave 3D seismic data to study sedimentary facies and reservoirs in a biogas-bearing area: A case study on the Pleistocene Qigequan Formation in Taidong area, Sanhu Depression, Qaidam Basin, NW China

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development
To solve the problems in restoring sedimentary facies and predicting reservoirs in loose gas-bearing sediment, based on seismic sedimentologic analysis of the first 9-component S-wave 3D seismic dataset of China, a fourth-order isochronous stratigraphic ...

Impact of earthquakes on agriculture during the Roman–Byzantine period from pollen records of the Dead Sea laminated sediment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Dead Sea region holds the archives of a complex relationship between an ever-changing nature and ancient civilisations. Regional pollen diagrams show a Roman–Byzantine period standing out in the recent millennia by its wetter climate that allowed ...

Application of Seismic Sedimentology in Identifying Submarine Fan Bodies

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract The research area is located in the Yenisai Hatanga Basin of Russia, which is a transitional facies sedimentary rock between sea and land. Oil and gas are mostly concentrated in turbidite sand bodies of the low level domain submarine fans of Lower hutt formation in the Lower Cretaceous, and locally developed in the slope fan ...

Seismic Stratigraphy and Tectonic Evolution of the Forearc Georgia Basin (Upper Cretaceous–Miocene), Canada and USA, With Implications for CO2 Sequestration

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
2D seismic and well data reveal multi‐phase basin filling in the Whatcom Sub‐Basin shaped by syn‐depositional tectonism. An Eocene transition from forearc basin to forearc depression corresponds to decreasing normal‐fault density and throw, both upsection and eastward. Paleogene–Neogene strata are the best CO2 storage targets.

Seismic Sedimentology for the Characterization of Quaternary Evaporite Facies in Biogas-Bearing Taidong Area, Sanhu Depression, Qaidam Basin, NW China

open access: yesApplied Sciences
S-wave seismic data are unaffected by natural gas trapped in strata, making them a valuable tool to study evaporite facies comparing to P-wave data. S-wave seismic data were utilized to construct an isochronous framework and analyze evaporite facies by ...

Marine record of late quaternary glacial-interglacial fluctuations in the Ross Sea and evidence for rapid, episodic sea level change due to marine ice sheet collapse [PDF]

open access: yes
Some of the questions to be addressed by SeaRISE include: (1) what was the configuration of the West Antarctic ice sheet during the last glacial maximum; (2) What is its configuration during a glacial minimum; and (3) has it, or any marine ice sheet ...

Architecture mode, sedimentary evolution and controlling factors of deepwater turbidity channels: A case study of the M Oilfield in West Africa

open access: yesPetroleum Science, 2017
Turbidity channels have been considered as one of the important types of deepwater reservoir, and the study of their architecture plays a key role in efficient development of an oil field.

Integrated seismic–CPTu analysis for engineering geological stratification of Quaternary deposits off Lianjiang, Fujian

open access: yesAll Earth
As offshore wind power development has expanded towards deeper and more distant waters, accurately understanding the geotechnical characteristics of thick Quaternary unconsolidated sediments has become a major challenge in engineering geological ...

Molluscan Evidence for Slow Subsidence in the Bobotsari Basin during the Plio-Pleistocene, and Implications for Petroleum Maturity

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical and Fundamental Sciences, 2015
Integrated studies of the stratigraphy, sedimentology and molluscan paleontology of several late Neogene localities in West and Central Java (Indonesia) showed that deposition took place under marine conditions until early in the Pleistocene in the ...
