Abstract Micrometric phyllosilicate films along fault slip surfaces (SSs) can drastically reduce friction, yet they are unexpected in clay‐poor carbonate platforms. We inquire how a major carbonate‐hosted, seismogenic strike‐slip fault can develop weak slip interfaces and undergo dynamic weakening despite an intrinsically strong host rock.

Abstract One promising potential site for extracting supercritical geothermal fluids is the Krafla volcano, Iceland, into which a borehole was drilled very close to a shallow rhyolite magma chamber at about 2 km depth. Besides the technical challenge to drill in this setting, the extreme temperature conditions of T > 900°C close to the magma body may ...

Intensified Meltwater Influx During Heinrich Stadial 1 Recorded in the Gulf of Maine, USA
Abstract Abrupt, millennial‐scale climate events characterize the most recent deglaciation. However, their nature remains poorly understood. Previous work has shown enhanced glacial melt signals from the European/Scandinavian Ice Sheet and a rapid recession of the Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) in Eastern Maine during Heinrich Stadial 1 (HS‐1).

Magnetotelluric Exploration of Zn Pb Mineralization in Stonepark, Irish Midlands
ABSTRACT To meet the increasing demand for raw materials and to foster the energy transition, advances in exploration techniques are required that extend capabilities to deeper and/or more densely populated areas while having a low environmental and societal impact.

This study integrates post‐stack seismic attributes with a CNN‐based workflow to characterize sub‐seismic deformation in shale gas reservoirs. A near‐linear correlation is established between seismic characterization methods and borehole deformation counts.

Improving the Knowledge on Seismogenic Sources in the Lower Tagus Valley for Seismic Hazard Purposes [PDF]
The Lower Tagus Valley, that includes the metropolitan area of Lisbon, has been struck by several earthquakes which produced significant material damage and loss of lives. Their exact location remains unknown.

2D seismic and well data reveal multi‐phase basin filling in the Whatcom Sub‐Basin shaped by syn‐depositional tectonism. An Eocene transition from forearc basin to forearc depression corresponds to decreasing normal‐fault density and throw, both upsection and eastward. Paleogene–Neogene strata are the best CO2 storage targets.
