Seismic stratigraphy and small 3D seismic surveys
The Leading Edge, 2007The establishment of seismic stratigraphic principles in the 1970s ushered in a new era of seismic interpretation possibilities. Seismic stratigraphy spawned sequence stratigraphy (potentially applicable to seismic, log, and outcrop data), and the associated methods for defining basin evolution, reconstructing depositional histories, and making ...

Interpretation, 2013
Abstract Here, I provide an historical summary of seismic stratigraphy and suggest some potential avenues for future collaborative work between sedimentary geologists and geophysicists. Stratigraphic interpretations based on reflection geometry- or shape-based approaches have been used to reconstruct depositional histories and to make

Frequency‐dependent Seismic Stratigraphy
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2009, 2009Summary Seismic interpretation of stratigraphy and sedimentology is frequency and scale dependent. Frequency dependency offers a new dimension of seismic data that has not been fully utilized in seismic stratigraphy. Seismic events are a function of wavelet and acoustic impedance profile.

Tectonics and seismic sequence stratigraphy
Journal of the Geological Society, 1991A two day meeting convened by Graham Williams (University of Keele) and Angela Dobb (Mobil North Sea Ltd) was held at the Geological Society in London on 6 and 7 February 1991. The aim of the meeting was to address the problems of the interaction between eustacy, sediment supply rate and tectonics in seismically imaged

At this stage, we are comfortable with the operations of picking continuous seismic reflections, timing them at intervals along the line, posting the values on a base map, and contouring the result to obtain a time structure map. Further, we may do this for two or more reflections, and subtract one map from another to obtain an isopach map expressed in

AAPG Bulletin, 1986
Progress in the analysis of seismic data for stratigraphic information content historically has moved along two major, though apparently disjointed, paths. One avenue (largely geological) follows the lead of Peter Vail and his team in considering geometric patterns and implied global sea level changes to establish ages, environments, and lithology. The

Seismic Modeling Of Experimental Stratigraphy
6th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society, 1999Seismic modeling of experimental stratigraphy provides a far more realistic framework for studying the seismic response of stratigraphy through synthetic modeling than has previously been available. The XS basin, a unique facility developed at the University of Minnesota, paves the way for a detailed study of the evolution of stratigraphy under ...

Seismic stratigraphy of Chinese loess
Quaternary Science Reviews, 1993Abstract A loess section near Lanzhou, China, has been investigated using the seismic refraction technique. The results show that the method is able to discriminate four distinct seismic boundaries within the section as well as indicating that the loess-bedrock contact occurs at a depth of more than 200 m.

Abstract The publication of AAPG Memoir 26 opened up a whole new field to the exploration community. The material contained in that publication demonstrated the relationship of seismic data to the geology of the subsurface in greater detail than previously thought possible.

Seismic Stratigraphy of Sedimentary Cover
2018Three major unconformities (Regional pre-Miocene, Early Eocene, post-Campanian) are regionally traced in the depressions of the Eurasian Basin. They are dated either by well data (ACEX IODP 302 on the Lomonosov Ridge), or by correlation of their onlaps on acoustic basement with the nearest identifiable linear magnetic anomaly.
