Upper mantle P velocity structure beneath the Midwestern United States derived from triplicated waveforms [PDF]
Upper mantle seismic velocity structures in both vertical and horizontal directions are key to understanding the structure and mechanics of tectonic plates.

Abstract This study introduces an innovative approach to strengthening defected reinforced concrete (RC) columns using externally bonded stainless steel and galvanized steel plates. Unlike conventional strengthening methods, this technique replaces traditional transverse stirrups with steel sheets, providing enhanced confinement and ductility.

Diffraction and seismic tomography [PDF]
SUMMARY Diffraction tomography is formulated in such a way that the data (traveltime4r waveform perturbations) are related to the medium perturbations through the sum of two terms. The first term is the ray integral of ordinary tomography and involves only phase perturbations.

Flexural performance of concrete‐filled steel tubular beams with wood chip aggregate
Abstract This study investigates the flexural performance of concrete‐filled steel tubular (CFST) beams with partial replacement of aggregates by wood chips (0%–25%) through experimental and numerical analysis. This study is novel in that it experimentally and numerically investigates the flexural behavior of CFST beams with partial replacement of ...

Application of structural constraint grid tomography velocity modeling in Nanchuan area
All the reasons that the surface limestone is exposed in a large area, the signal-to-noise ratio of seismic data is low, the underground structure is complex, and the dip angle of strata is steep make Nanchuan area to be a typical double-complex seismic ...

2D Near‐Surface Full‐Waveform Tomography Reveals Bedrock Controls on Critical Zone Architecture
For decades, seismic imaging methods have been used to study the critical zone, Earth's thin, life‐supporting skin. The vast majority of critical zone seismic studies use traveltime tomography, which poorly resolves heterogeneity at many scales relevant ...

Fast Kalman Filter using Hierarchical-matrices and low-rank perturbative approach
We develop a fast algorithm for Kalman Filter applied to the random walk forecast model. The key idea is an efficient representation of the estimate covariance matrix at each time-step as a weighted sum of two contributions - the process noise covariance
