Dynamic magneto-flexoelectricity and seismo-electromagnetic phenomena: Connecting mechanical response to electromagnetic signatures

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 2022
The electromagnetic aspects of the fully dynamic flexoelectric problem are examined for dielectric solids by introducing a new theoretical framework which incorporates both gradients of electric polarization and flexoelectricity due to strain gradients and also includes a weak coupling with the magnetic field. This formulation predicts the existence of

Frictional discharge plasma and seismo-electromagnetic phenomena

Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 2008
Abstract Although several mechanisms of precursory electromagnetic emissions of earthquakes have been proposed, there has been no in situ observation of electromagnetic phenomena occurring at the frictional contacts during rock frictions. From an experiment simulating the motion of an asperity on a fault surface, we report the generation of photon ...

Magnetic field turbulence studies aboard the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite and related ground based phenomena

2021

With a new type of a scalar magnetometer, the Coupled Dark State Magnetometer (CDSM) aboard the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES) mission, we observed magnetic field fluctuations in the period mid July 2018 until mid November 2018.
The measurement range of the CDSM is from 1000 nT up to 100000

On the mechanism of seismo-electromagnetic phenomena and their possible role in the electromagnetic radiation during periods of earthquakes, foreshocks and aftershocks

Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1989
Abstract We describe generation of low- and radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation (EMR) by seismic waves of pressure applied to a neutral nonpiezoelectrical medium. The EMR is induced during the process of ionic crystal fracture and formation of a mosaic of fluctuation charges on the opposite sides of the cracks, the formation and oscillation of ...

SEISMO-ELECTROMAGNETIC PHENOMENA IN TECTONICALLY ACTIVE REGIONS

2012
This work presents a research plan that aims to monitor seismo-electromagnetic signals in seismic active regions. Two effects will be considered: electromagnetic field emissions and radio broadcastings. Our study will be focused in the analysis of low magnitude earthquakes almost completely disregarded in literature.

Physics of Seismo-Electromagnetic Phenomena: Twenty Years After

2013
This paper presents a work that aims to study seismo-electromagnetic phenomena in the Western Part of the Eurasia-Nubia Plate Boundary. This region has a significant tectonic activity combined with relatively low electromagnetic noise levels, rendering high quality seismo-electromagnetic measurements possible.

Seismo-Electromagnetic and Seismo-Ionospheric Phenomena: From the Earliest Works of G.A. Sobolev to the Present Day

Физика Земли / Izvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth
The review examines seismo-electromagnetic and seismo-ionospheric phenomena, the potential of which for earthquake forecasting and exploration geophysics was anticipated by the remarkable Russian geophysicist G.A. Sobolev. His works inspired geophysicists around the world to work in these areas, and to date they have developed rapidly.
