Topical issues in hydrogeology of seismogenic fault zones

Физика земли
The hydrogeology of fault zones, especially at considerable depth, is perhaps the most poorly developed area of earthquake source mechanics. This is due both to the insufficient data on the filtration characteristics of the geomaterial at large depths and to the complexity of the processes of mass transfer, fracture formation and healing under high ...

Seismogenic zones of Northwestern Croatia

2008
Newly obtained and combined structural and seismic data allow us to define and characterize the major seismogenic zones of the NW Croatia. Although characterized by a moderate seismicity with a rare occurrence of earthquakes with M ³ 5, this part of Croatia is considered as seismically the most vulnerable part of the country due to the highest ...

The Seismogenic Zone of Subduction Thrust Faults

Seismological Research Letters, 2008
This book is essentially B.S.—Before Sumatra. Before December 26, 2004, when part of the thrust fault interface between the subducting Indian and overriding Burma plates off the coast of Sumatra broke. Before the rupture raced 1,200 km northward at 10,000 km/hr (Mach 8).

Challenges to drill through seismogenic zone

2013 IEEE International Underwater Technology Symposium (UT), 2013
The deep sea riser drilling vessel, CHIKYU started its scientific operation from 2007 after completed the shakedown and training cruises. It is capable of riser drilling up to 7,000m deep below sea floor at 2,500 water depth and aims to the seismogenic zone and mantle in the future.

Azores seismogenic zones

2017
One condition to perform seismic hazard analysis is knowledge about seismogenic zones that is an invaluable source of information and play an important role because it is fundamental know the processes and properties that control the seismogenic zone.

Seismogenic structures in the central Virginia seismic zone

Geology, 1988
A correlation between earthquake hypocenters and seismic reflection data in central Virginia has become apparent on an automatic line drawing (ALD) display of seismic reflection data. With the reprocessed Virginia I-64 reflection Vibroseis data extended to 14 s, reflectors are imaged from the lower crust as well as from the upper crust.

The North Anatolian Fault Zone and the Role of Fluids in Seismogenic Deformation

The Journal of Geology, 1997
A study of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (Turkey) in dicates significant spatial variations of deformation mechanisms and fluid flow along and across a major active strike‐slip fault. Brittle deformation and later dissolution are mostly localized within the fault core, whereas crystal plastic deformation and diffusive mass transfer are more widely ...

Seismogenic zone-dependent time-clustering behaviour in Italian seismicity

Computers & Geosciences, 2005
We performed the Allan factor analysis on the 1986-2001 seismicity of the 80 seismogenetic zones in which the Italian territory has been subdivided by the Gruppo Nazionale Difesa dai Terremoti (GNDT), in order to investigate the presence of time-correlated behaviour. Power-law time-correlated areas have been identified analyzing the aftershock-depleted
