The mechanics of slip at the updip limit of the seismogenic zone

2020
The world’s largest earthquakes occur within the seismogenic zones of subduction thrusts, which lock between large magnitude earthquakes. At the updip limit of seismogenic zones, a transitional zone occurs if the subduction interface is not locked to the trench.

Seismogenic zone-dependent time-clustering behaviour in Italian seismicity

Computers & Geosciences, 2005
We performed the Allan factor analysis on the 1986-2001 seismicity of the 80 seismogenetic zones in which the Italian territory has been subdivided by the Gruppo Nazionale Difesa dai Terremoti (GNDT), in order to investigate the presence of time-correlated behaviour. Power-law time-correlated areas have been identified analyzing the aftershock-depleted

Roughness at the base of the seismogenic zone: Contributing factors

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1984
The cutout depth of microseismic activity in continental fault zones appears to correspond to the onset of greenschist metamorphic conditions at about 300°C. It can generally be modeled as the transition from frictional to quasi‐plastic behavior in quartzofeldspathic crust.

Seismotectonics and seismogenic source zones of the Arabian Platform

2012
Although there is no known seismic source directly under the Arabian Platform, there are numerous sources nearby that can cause damaging seismic shaking in Arabian Gulf cities. The Arabian Gulf is underlain by deep sedimentary structure, nearly 10 km deep, and is adjacent to one of the most seismically active intra-continental fold-and-thrust belts on ...
