On the Selective Nature of Bias

RESEARCHERS who are confronted with nonprobabilistic samples or samples with large proportions of nonresponse often select a few variables they expect to be associated with the variable of main interest (for which population means are known) and compare the sample means with the known population means.

Attentional bias in anxiety: Selective or not?

Under certain circumstances, anxiety has been shown to be associated with a processing bias favouring threatening information. Much of the evidence has come from experiments utilising the modified Stroop colour-naming paradigm. However, the traditional Stroop stimuli does not allow for a good test of selective attention.
