Portfolio selection problems in practice: a comparison between linear and quadratic optimization models

open access: yes, 2010
Several portfolio selection models take into account practical limitations on the number of assets to include and on their weights in the portfolio.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Morpho-physiological characterization and selection of heat tolerant wheat lines using selection indices

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding
Heat stress is one of the major constraints in wheat production due to its adverse effect on grain yield and component traits. Moreover, it negatively affects the physiological, biochemical and quality traits of wheat.

Report on selected indicators

open access: yes, 2020
In this report a set of indicators is proposed for summarizing objectives and providing up-to-date information on the impacts of climate change, the state-of-the-environment and societal conditions of islands. These indicators are meant to support a practical description.

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Hedge fund portfolio selection with modified expected shortfall [PDF]

open access: yes
Modified Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Expected Shortfall (ES) are recently introduced downside risk estimators based on the Cornish-Fisher expansion for assets such as hedge funds whose returns are non-normally distributed.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Optimising multistage dairy cattle breeding schemes including genomic selection using decorrelated or optimum selection indices

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2012
Background The prediction of the outcomes from multistage breeding schemes is especially important for the introduction of genomic selection in dairy cattle.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.
