Selective Encoding for Abstractive Sentence Summarization
We propose a selective encoding model to extend the sequence-to-sequence framework for abstractive sentence summarization. It consists of a sentence encoder, a selective gate network, and an attention equipped decoder.

Opposing effects of attention and consciousness on afterimages [PDF]
The brain's ability to handle sensory information is influenced by both selective attention and consciousness. There is no consensus on the exact relationship between these two processes and whether they are distinct.

Algorithms and selective attention [PDF]
Selective attention is hypothesized to be controlled by intentionally chosen algorithms that specify how stimuli are to be processed. These experiments attempted to measure the time to select such algorithms. Subjects were given a two-choice reaction time task with a variety of different possible stimuli.

Clinical Course and Impact of Breaks in Therapy for Children With Relapsed/Refractory Solid Tumors
ABSTRACT Introduction Pediatric relapsed or refractory (R/R) solid tumors carry a dismal prognosis, and postrelapse patient experiences are not well described. We present postrelapse outcomes, including number of R/R events and subsequent therapy regimens.

Measuring Auditory Selective Attention using Frequency Tagging
Frequency tagging of sensory inputs (presenting stimuli that fluctuate periodically at rates to which the cortex can phase lock) has been used to study attentional modulation of neural responses to inputs in different sensory modalities.

Selective Attention for Context-aware Neural Machine Translation
Despite the progress made in sentence-level NMT, current systems still fall short at achieving fluent, good quality translation for a full document. Recent works in context-aware NMT consider only a few previous sentences as context and may not scale to ...

Visual Selective Attention in Mice [PDF]
Visual selective attention is a fundamental cognitive ability that allows us to process relevant visual stimuli while ignoring irrelevant distracters and has been extensively studied in human and non-human primate subjects. Mice have emerged as a powerful animal model for studying aspects of the visual system but have not yet been shown to exhibit ...

ABSTRACT Background Neuropsychological complications may impair the qualitative prognosis of patients with pediatric brain tumors. However, multifaceted evaluations cannot be conducted in all patients because they are time consuming and burdensome for patients.

Mild acute stress improves response speed without impairing accuracy or interference control in two selective attention tasks: Implications for theories of stress and cognition. [PDF]
Acute stress is generally thought to impair performance on tasks thought to rely on selective attention. This effect has been well established for moderate to severe stressors, but no study has examined how a mild stressor-the most common type of ...

Seeing two faces together: preference formation in humans and rhesus macaques [PDF]
Humans, great apes and old world monkeys show selective attention to faces depending on conspecificity, familiarity, and social status supporting the view that primates share similar face processing mechanisms.
