Extinction-induced response resurgence: A selective review.
Resurgence refers to the recovery of previously extinguished responding when a recently reinforced response is extinguished (e.g., Epstein, 1983, 1985). Figure 1 illustrates resurgence using hypothetical data. In the first condition, only Response A is reinforced.

New VR magnification ratios of QSO 0957+561
We present VR magnification ratios of QSO 0957+561, which are inferred from the GLITP light curves of Q0957+561A and new frames taken with the 2.56m Nordic Optical Telescope about 14 months after the GLITP monitoring.

Evolution of dust extinction curves in galaxy simulation
To understand the evolution of extinction curve, we calculate the dust evolution in a galaxy using smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations incorporating stellar dust production, dust destruction in supernova shocks, grain growth by accretion and ...

Object integration requires attention: visual search for Kanizsa figures in parietal extinction [PDF]
The contribution of selective attention to object integration is a topic of debate: integration of parts into coherent wholes, such as in Kanizsa figures, is thought to arise either from pre-attentive, automatic coding processes or from higher-order ...

Nestedness is one of the important patterns in island biogeography, community ecology and conservation biology. However, most previous nestedness studies focus on the taxonomic dimension while neglecting the functional and phylogenetic processes in ...

Spectroscopic evolution of dusty starburst galaxies [PDF]
By using a one-zone chemical and spectrophotometric evolution model of a disk galaxy undergoing a dusty starburst, we investigate, numerically, the optical spectroscopic properties in order to explore galaxy evolution in distant clusters.

Tracing the history of LINE and SINE extinction in sigmodontine rodents
Background L1 retrotransposons have co-evolved with their mammalian hosts for the entire history of mammals and currently compose ~ 20% of a mammalian genome.

Grain mantles: The impact on grain evolution and selective extinction [PDF]
Depletion studies are used to infer the presence of mantles and to constrain grain evolutionary models in the diffuse interstellar medium. The presence of these mantles appears to be important in the evolution of the grains inside diffuse as well as ...

Underlying factors promoting nestedness of bird assemblages in cays of the Jardines de la Reina archipelago, Cuba [PDF]
Assessing the factors associated with nestedness patterns is a crucial aspect in studies of community structure. Bird assemblages in the Jardines de la Reina archipelago have a stable nested structure but the underlying influences have not been evaluated.

Thermo-Optically Controlled Vertical Waveguide Directional Couplers for Mode-Selective Switching
We propose a three-dimensional waveguide structure for the realization of mode-selective switches, where the high-order spatial modes of a few-mode waveguide can be switched to various single-mode waveguides with thermo-optically controlled vertical ...
