Bayesian selection of log‐linear models

Canadian Journal of Statistics, 1996
AbstractA general methodology is presented for finding suitable Poisson log‐linear models with applications to multiway contingency tables. Mixtures of multivariate normal distributions are used to model prior opinion when a subset of the regression vector is believed to be nonzero.

Selective SP Logging

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1950
Abstract An earlier paper on the general subject of the SP log has analyzed thelimitations of that log, in particular when dealing with thin permeable bedsenclosed in thick highly resistive ones. Under such conditions, the SP log doesnot give a good definition of the permeable beds.

Selective Logging Costs Less

Journal of Forestry, 1939
Abstract Accelerated by a growing public consciousness for more conservative methods in the harvesting of timber crops, the selective form of cutting has received favorable and valuable publicity. Of necessity public definition of the method has been given in terms of values which might be achievedrather than in terms of problems which ...

Variable selection under multicollinearity using modified log penalty

Journal of Applied Statistics, 2019
To handle the multicollinearity issues in the regression analysis, a class of 'strictly concave penalty function' is described in this paper. As an example, a new penalty function called 'modified log penalty' is introduced. The penalized estimator based on strictly concave penalties enjoys the oracle property under certain regularity conditions ...

Simultaneous classification and feature selection via LOG SVM and Elastic LOG SVM

2017 36th Chinese Control Conference (CCC), 2017
In data mining and machine learning, classifying the class labels and selecting features simultaneously are important. This study proposes two new sparse support vector machines (SVMs), namely, LOG SVM and Elastic LOG SVM. The LOG SVM uses the LOG penalty, and the Elastic LOG SVM combines the non-convex LOG penalty and the L 2 norm penalty.

A log-linear modeling framework for selective mixing

Mathematical Biosciences, 1991
Nonrandom mixing can significantly alter the diffusion path of an infectious disease such as AIDS that requires intimate contact. Recent attempts to model this effect have sought a general framework capable of representing both simple and arbitrarily complicated mixing structures, and of solving the balancing problem in a nonequilibrium multigroup ...

Three-Cone Bit Selection With Sonic Logs

SPE Drilling Engineering, 1987
Summary Formation hardness and compressive strength correlate with calculated shear travel time, which has led to the development of a correlation between economical roller-cone bit selection and calculated shear travel time. Upper and lower shear-travel-time limits are then placed on steel-tooth and tungsten-carbide bits as a guide to ...

Vertebrate responses to selective logging: implications for the design of logging systems

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 1992
The adoption of tropical rain forest management systems that conserve both timber stocks and the environment is increasingly viewed as a necessary development to maintain both the tropical timber trade and the forests themselves. There are no theoretical reasons why such systems should not be achievable.
