The deglaciation of the mountains of Mexico and Central America

open access: yesCuadernos de Investigación Geográfica, 2017
The last deglaciation is an interval of marked changes in the climate system. The records of glaciation of tropical mountains offer unique opportunities to assess the timing of changes and the sensitivity of tropical climates to global and regional ...

Climatic niche shifts and ecological sky‐island dynamics in Mesoamerican montane birds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2024.
We describe climatic niche of four Neotropical montane birds through the analysis of climatic factors driving their evolution at inter‐ and intraspecific levels. We tested for differences among lineages within four taxa (Aulacorhynchus, Chlorospingus, Cardellina, and Eupherusa), all associated to Mesoamerican humid montane forests.

Nichtkovalente Organokatalyse mit Halogen‐, Chalkogen‐, Pniktogen‐ und Tetrelbrücken: neuere Entwicklungen

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 31, July 29, 2024.

The names of the town and villages of Gozo (Malta) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Maltese islands have been dominated by various rulers who left an imprint on the life, customs, and language of the inhabitants. This is evident also in the toponymy of the archipelago.

Towards understanding broad degeneracy in non-strange mesons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The spectroscopic regularities of modern empirical data on the non-strange mesons up to 2.4 GeV can be summarized as a systematic clustering of states near certain values of energy.

Bats and Mayan temples: Bat diversity and the potential for conservation of archeological zones in Yucatan, Mexico

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 4, July 2024.
The role of archeological zones in biological conservation has been highlighted because they restrict land‐use change, size, and maintenance of upstanding vegetation. We found 23 species from six families and seven guilds, representing 53% of all bat species known from the Yucatan state, including two endangered species for Mexico.

High-Precision Thermodynamics and Hagedorn Density of States

open access: yes, 2009
We compute the entropy density of the confined phase of QCD without quarks on the lattice to very high accuracy. The results are compared to the entropy density of free glueballs, where we include all the known glueball states below the two-particle ...

Evolution of substrate specificity in a retained enzyme driven by gene loss. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The connection between gene loss and the functional adaptation of retained proteins is still poorly understood. We apply phylogenomics and metabolic modeling to detect bacterial species that are evolving by gene loss, with the finding that ...
