Reaction of Selenious Acid with Potassium Permanganate

Nature, 1965
ALTHOUGH the reaction of selenious acid with potassium permanganate has been used in estimating selenium1–3 it has not been investigated in detail. According to Charlot4 selenious acid reduces permanganate to manganese dioxide, which separates from the solution. But it is observed that when potassium permanganate is added to a large excess of selenious

Determination of bismuth by selenious acid

Fresenius' Zeitschrift für analytische Chemie, 1958
Bismuth is shown to be precipitated quantitatively as bismuth selenite by boiling an almost neutral solution of bismuth nitrate and excess selenious acid. The excess H2SeO3 is determined iodometrically by standard thiosulphate or arsenious oxide solution. Alternatively, the precipitated selenite may be dried at 105–110° C and weighed as Bi2(SeO3)3.

INFRARED SPECTRA AND STRUCTURE OF SELENIOUS ACID

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1958
The infrared spectra of selenious acid both crystalline and in solution in water and methanol were recorded from 2 to 30 μ. Assignment of the various frequencies is made on the basis of the crystal structure as determined from X-ray data. It is shown that the molecules have the symmetrical form (a), the asymmetrical one (b) proposed by Venkateswaran ...

Acute poisoning by selenious acid.

Veterinary and human toxicology, 1986
A 2 yo male child ingested approximately 15 ml of a Gun Blue solution containing selenious acid, nitric acid and copper nitrate. He was immediately given milk and vomited spontaneously blood-stained food with a garlic smell. He was admitted to our Centre less than 3 hr following ingestion.
