Cold denaturation induces inversion of dipole and spin transfer in chiral peptide monolayers
Spin selectivity for electron transport through peptide monolayers depends on the dipole moment of the system. Here, the authors show that self-assembled monolayers of peptides with α-helix structures transform to more linear structures upon cooling ...

Regulated growth of diatom cells on self-assembled monolayers
We succeeded in regulating the growth of diatom cells on chemically modified glass surfaces. Glass surfaces were functionalized with -CF3, -CH3, -COOH, and -NH2 groups using the technique of self-assembled monolayers (SAM), and diatom cells were ...

Frequency control of photonic crystal membrane resonators by mono-layer deposition [PDF]
We study the response of GaAs photonic crystal membrane resonators to thin film deposition. Slow spectral shifts of the cavity mode of several nanometers are observed at low temperatures, caused by cryo-gettering of background molecules.

Synergistic enhancement of hydrogel adhesion via tough chemical bonding and physical entanglements
Herein, excellent hydrogel–solid adhesion over 1500 J/m2 was achieved with the synergy of energy dissipation, covalent bonds, and topological entanglements using self-assembled monolayers.

The role of reconstruction in self-assembly of alkylthiolate monolayers on coinage metal surfaces [PDF]
Through a combination of standard laboratory-based surface science methods, together with synchrotron radiation-based normal incidence X-ray standing wave (NIXSW) experiments, the interface structure of simple alkylthiolate ‘self-assembled monolayers’ on

A Density Functional Theory Investigation of Carboranethiol Self-Assembled Monolayer on Au(111)
Isolated and full monolayer adsorption of various carboranethiol (C$_2$B$_{10}$H$_{12}$S) isomers on gold (111) surface have been investigated using both the standard and van der Waals density functional theoretical calculations.

Combinatiorial method for surface-confined sensor desing and fabrication [PDF]
The procedure for the combinatorial fabrication of new sensing materials for cations and anions based on self-assembled monolayers (SAM) is discussed. A library of different sensitive substrates is generated by sequential deposition of fluorophores and ...

Mechanical characterization of carbon nanomembranes from self-assembled monolayers
This paper reports on the mechanical characterization of carbon nanomembranes (CNMs) with a thickness of 1 nm that are fabricated by electron-induced crosslinking of aromatic self-assembled monolayers (SAMs).
