Wettability of Azobenzene Self-Assembled Monolayers
Langmuir, 2014The wettability properties of azobenzene self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), in the trans and cis forms, are investigated herein by classical Molecular Dynamics simulations of validated assembly structures described with a dedicated force field. The two different methodologies used for the calculation of the contact angle, one based on the Young's ...

Resonance, 1999
In recent years, a number of systems have been shown to spontaneously assemble on appropriate solid surfaces to form films with thicknesses of molecular dimensions. The special techniques needed to prepare, characterise and study such monolayers are described.

Patterning self-assembled monolayers
Progress in Surface Science, 2004The understandings and applications of self-assembly have evolved significantly since the adsorption of n-alkyldisulfides on gold surfaces was first reported. The desire to produce features on surfaces that are placed in controlled proximity has driven study in both the chemistries and methodologies of their production. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs)

Sensor Functionalities in Self-Assembled Monolayers
Advanced Materials, 2000Sensors based on self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are the topic of this article. First an overview of the analytical techniques used for the characterization of monolayers is given. This is followed by details of the use of functional SAMs to study interactions with analytes, for example, the complexation of metal ions by crown ether adsorbates.

Conglomerate crystallization on self-assembled monolayers
Chemical Communications, 2011In this communication, we demonstrate that chiral self-assembled monolayers can be used for polymorphism control of chiral crystals. We studied the crystallization of DL-glutamic acid on chiral self-assembled monolayers and showed that crystallization of DL-glutamic acid on the chiral SAMs resulted in stabilization of the metastable conglomerate form.

Self-Assembled Monolayer-Assisted Negative Lithography
Langmuir, 2015Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) have been widely employed as etching resists in wet lithography systems to form patterns in which the ordered molecular packing of the SAM regions significantly delays the etchant attack. A generally accepted recognition is that the SAMs ability to resist etching is positively correlated to the quality of the surface ...

Fracture Between Self-Assembled Monolayers
While it is intuitive that molecular interaction should correlate to the mechanical properties of a material, it has only recently become possible to make the measurements necessary to trace the effects of molecular interaction across length scales to properties at the level of the material. The utility of “classical” polymeric adhesives is underscoredK Liechti +4 more
