Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

The effect of modified titanium dioxide, silica, and zinc oxide on the self-cleaning property of an acrylic resin-based paint

open access: yesPolymers and Polymer Composites
Traffic paints hold paramount importance in road markings and ensuring efficient traffic flow. Self-cleaning marking traffic paints are a type of paint which recently developed to keep traffic lines clean with high visibility.

A lotus effect-inspired flexible and breathable membrane with hierarchical electrospinning micro/nanofibers and ZnO nanowires

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Hierarchical structures such as the leaf of lotus are promising models for self-cleaning surfaces. A biomimetic structure that contains PVDF microfibers (ZnO nanowires covered with oleic acid) was prepared here to illustrate the biomimetic lotus effect ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Natural and synthetic superhydrophobic surfaces: A review of the fundamentals, structures, and applications

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2023
Self-cleaning surfaces are nature-inspired and based on the surface processes occurring on butterfly wings and lotus leaves. Owing to their unique characteristics, they are usable in a number of industrial applications, including the manufacture of solar

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Investigating the impact of using modified cool materials by titanium dioxide (TiO2)-based photocatalytic self-cleaning nanoparticles in urban facades on urban microclimate parameters

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
Purpose: On the one hand, one of the most important global strategies to improve thermal comfort in urban spaces is using cool materials (high albedo materials) in urban facades. On the other hand, using cool materials in urban facades is a big challenge.

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...
