Natural and synthetic superhydrophobic surfaces: A review of the fundamentals, structures, and applications

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2023
Self-cleaning surfaces are nature-inspired and based on the surface processes occurring on butterfly wings and lotus leaves. Owing to their unique characteristics, they are usable in a number of industrial applications, including the manufacture of solar

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Investigating the impact of using modified cool materials by titanium dioxide (TiO2)-based photocatalytic self-cleaning nanoparticles in urban facades on urban microclimate parameters

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
Purpose: On the one hand, one of the most important global strategies to improve thermal comfort in urban spaces is using cool materials (high albedo materials) in urban facades. On the other hand, using cool materials in urban facades is a big challenge.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Digital Microfluidic Systems for Self-cleaning Surfaces and Lab-on-Chip Devices Using Anisotropic Ratchet Conveyors

open access: yes, 2020
Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2020This work focuses on creating active self-cleaning surface systems and lab-on-chip devices using anisotropic ratchet conveyors (ARCs). ARCs create micro-sized hydrophilic patterns on a hydrophobic background.

Self-cleaning surface functionalisation of wool fibres

open access: yes, 2017
Photocatalytic purification of organic pollutants, contaminants and hazardous microorganisms is an interesting approach toward pollution control. Using photosensitive catalysts, undesirable organic compounds can be completely mineralised.

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles
