Subterranean environments contribute to three‐quarters of classified ecosystem services

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Beneath the Earth's surface lies a network of interconnected caves, voids, and systems of fissures forming in rocks of sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic origin. Although largely inaccessible to humans, this hidden realm supports and regulates services critical to ecological health and human well‐being.

Charting the Course: Real‐World Application of Sustainability and Innovation Principles in the Portuguese Blue Economy Firms

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The blue economy has emerged as a key sector for linking sustainability and innovation, yet existing research has largely overlooked how firms operationalize these processes in practice. This study addresses that gap by asking: How do Portuguese blue economy firms embed sustainability‐oriented innovation (SOI) into their strategies, and what ...

Effect of fibers types on fresh properties and flexural toughness of self-compacting concrete

open access: yes, 2020
This research aimed to experimentally examine the workability and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) with silica fume (SF) and different types of fibers. Five types of fibers, namely, hook-end steel (H), mild steel (M), carved-steel (

Circular Economy Pathways for Airport Climate Change Mitigation

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Airport operators face growing climate‐change pressures; the circular economy offers pathways to reduce impacts and recover resources. We examine how airport operators apply the circular economy in practice. We use an exploratory qualitative multicase design based on practitioner‐generated documents (e.g., press releases and sustainability ...

Fresh and Hardened Properties of SCC Incorporating Rice Husk Ash and Sugarcane Bagasse Ash [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Self-compacting concrete represents a unique type of concrete that achieves self-compression through its mass, eliminating the need for external vibrations.

Green Hydrogen for Public Transportation: Insights From an ABM and From Palma de Mallorca Case Study

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The development of green hydrogen (GH2) value chains is crucial for decarbonizing sectors such as transport and industry. Their emergence, however, requires coordination among diverse actors, technologies, and regulations, which traditional analytical approaches struggle to capture.

Shear Behavior of Self Compacting Concrete

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2012
Twelve self compacting concrete (SCC) beams were cast to investigate the shear behavior under two concentrated load. All beams have a constant longitudinal steel ratio of (0.02065) and constant gross section area of (17000)mm2.

Insights Into Symmetry and Substitution Patterns Governing Singlet–Triplet Energy Gap in the Chemical Space of Azaphenalenes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Molecules that violate Hund's rule by exhibiting an inverted singlet–triplet gap (STG), where the first excited singlet (S1${\rm S}_1$) lies below the triplet (T1${\rm T}_1$), are rare but hold great promise as efficient fifth‐generation light emitters.

Self‐Similar Blowup for the Cubic Schrödinger Equation

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We give a rigorous proof for the existence of a finite‐energy, self‐similar solution to the focusing cubic Schrödinger equation in three spatial dimensions. The proof is computer‐assisted and relies on a fixed point argument that shows the existence of a solution in the vicinity of a numerically constructed approximation.

Self-Compacting Concrete: Composition Methodology

open access: yes, 2010
[Excerpt] Self-compacting concrete (SCC) has as its main advantage the assurance of the durability of the concrete structures regardless the work quality during construction. However, notwithstanding this current and strong motivation, it is still not widely applied.
