Updating, Self-Confidence and Discrimination [PDF]
Abstract In this laboratory experiment, we show that people incorporate irrelevant group information when evaluating others. Individuals from groups that perform badly on average receive low evaluations, even when it is known that the individuals themselves perform well.

Self-Confidence and Search [PDF]
Standard search theory assumes that individuals know, with certainty, how they compare to competing searchers in terms of ability. In contrast, we hypothesize that searchers are uncertain about relative ability, with important implications for search behavior. We test our hypotheses in a laboratory experiment.

Self-Confidence and Personal Motivation [PDF]
The maintenance and enhancement of self-esteem has always been identified as a fundamental human impulse. Philosophers, writers, educators and of course psychologists have all emphasized the crucial role played by self-image in motivation, affect and social interactions.

Neurocomputational mechanisms of confidence in self and others
Estimating confidence in the decision making ability of others is important for cooperative behaviour. Here the authors combine computational modelling and fMRI to investigate how the brain supports this process.

Self-confidence and metacognitive processes [PDF]
This paper examines the status of Self-confidence trait. Two studies strongly suggest that Self-confidence is a component of metacognition. In the first study, participants (N=132) were administered measures of Self-concept, a newly devised Memory and ...

Self-Confidence and Teamwork: An Experimental Test [PDF]
We use a laboratory experiment to study how perceptions of skill influence teamwork. Our design is based on Gervais and Goldstein (2007) theory of teams. Team output is increasing in skill and in effort, skill and effort are complements, and workers’ effort choices are complements. An overconfident agent thinks that his skill is higher than it actually

Learning and Self-Confidence in Contests [PDF]
The paper studies a repeated contest when contestants are uncertain about their true abilities. A favourable belief about one's own ability (confidence) stimulates effort and increases the likelihood of success. Success, in turn, reinforces favourable beliefs.

Asymptotic consensus without self-confidence [PDF]
This paper studies asymptotic consensus in systems in which agents do not necessarily have self-confidence, i.e., may disregard their own value during execution of the update rule. We show that the prevalent hypothesis of self-confidence in many convergence results can be replaced by the existence of aperiodic cores.

Creative writing: Creating self-confidence
Developing teenage students’ self-confidence could be difficult. Their age, likes, beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions are constant obstacles to learning a new language, even more, if they do not feel comfortable in their classroom.

Self-Confidence and Unraveling in Matching Markets [PDF]
We document experimentally how biased self-assessments affect the outcome of labor markets. In the experiments, we exogenously manipulate the self-confidence of participants in the role of workers regarding their relative performance by employing hard and easy real-effort tasks.
