Vibration Absorbers for a Class of Self-Excited Mechanical Systems
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1993An averaging methodology is employed in studying dynamics of a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear oscillator. The main system is modeled as a van der Pol oscillator under harmonic forcing. The objective is to reduce its amplitude of oscillation near resonance, by attaching to it a damped vibration absorber with a Duffing spring.

Quenching of self-excited vibrations: one- and two-frequency vibrations
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1975Abstract An analysis is presented of the possibility of initiation of two-frequency self-excited vibrations, and it is shown on this basis, and amply documented by analogue solutions, that the occurrence of such a phenomenon is rather exceptional in the systems being examined.
