Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Self-healing in leprosy: A systematic review

open access: yesPLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases
Background Leprosy, caused by Mycobacterium leprae, affects multiple body systems and can lead to preventable disability if untreated. While multidrug therapy (MDT) has been available since 1982, historical evidence suggests that untreated leprosy can resolve spontaneously.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Self-healing electronic skin with high fracture strength and toughness

open access: yesNature Communications
Human skin is essential for perception, encompassing haptic, thermal, proprioceptive, and pain-sensing functions through ion movement. Additionally, it is mechanically resilient and self-healing for protection.

Strength properties of self-healing mortars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cementitious materials are the most widely used in building materials all over the world. However, deterioration is inevitable even since in the very beginning of the service life.

Adenosine triphosphate as a modulator of protein interactions and stability

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ATP is best known as the cell's energy currency, but it also shapes how proteins fold, interact, aggregate and form biomolecular condensates. This review explains the emerging physical principles behind these effects, including weak binding to charged protein regions, magnesium‐dependent behaviour and concentration‐dependent control of protein ...

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...
