Using self-organizing map for coastal water quality classification: Towards a better understanding of patterns and processes.

Science of the Total Environment, 2018
Self-organizing map (SOM) was used to explore the spatial characteristics of water quality in the middle and southern Fujian coastal area. Nineteen water quality variables (temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, chemical oxygen demand ...

Multinomial Self Organizing Maps

2010 10th International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Applications, 2010
Co-occurrence data matrices arise frequently in various important applications such as a document clustering. By considering a multinomial mixture model, we present a new probabilistic Self-Organizing Map (SOM) for clustering and visualizing this kind of data. Contrary to SOM, our proposed learning algorithm optimizes an objective function.

Biologically Inspired Self-Organizing Map Applied to Task Assignment and Path Planning of an AUV System

IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems, 2018
An integrated biologically inspired self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm is proposed for task assignment and path planning of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) system in 3-D underwater environments with obstacle avoidance.

Self-organized criticality and the self-organizing map

Physical Review E, 2001
The self-organizing map (SOM), a biologically inspired, learning algorithm from the field of artificial neural networks, is presented as a self-organized critical (SOC) model of the extremal dynamics family. The SOM's ability to converge to an ordered configuration, independent of the initial state, is known and has been demonstrated, in the one ...

A Self Organizing Map Intrusion Detection System for RPL Protocol Attacks

International Journal of Interdisciplinary Telecommunications and Networking, 2019
Routing over low power and lossy networks (RPL) is a standardized routing protocol for constrained Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) environments. The main node's constraints include processing capability, power, memory, and energy.

Asynchronous self-organizing maps

IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 2000
A recently defined energy function which leads to a self-organizing map is used as a foundation for an asynchronous neural-network algorithm. We generalize the existing stochastic gradient approach to an asynchronous parallel stochastic gradient method for generating a topological map on a distributed computer system (MIMD).

Fusion of self-organizing map and granular self-organizing map for microblog summarization

Soft Computing, 2020
In this paper, we have proposed a fusion of two architectures, self-organizing map and granular self-organizing map (SOM + GSOM), for solving the microblog summarization task where a set of relevant tweets are extracted from the available set of tweets.

Parallelizing self-organizing maps

1997
Several ways of parallelizing the self-organizing network (Kohonen maps) are studied on the BSP-like parallel machine model. Optimal number of processors and criteria for choosing the right task decomposition are presented. Theoretical results are verified in the PVM environment on a cluster of workstations.

Fusion of Self Organizing Maps

2007
An important issue in data-mining is to find effective and optimal forms to learn and preserve the topological relations of highly dimensional input spaces and project the data to lower dimensions for visualization purposes. In this paper we propose a novel ensemble method to combine a finite number of Self Organizing Maps, we called this model ...

Geodesic self-organizing map

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Self-Organizing map (SOM) is a widely used tool to find clustering and also to visualize high dimensional data. Several spherical SOMs have been proposed to create a more accurate representation of the data by removing the “border effect”. In this paper, we compare several spherical lattices for the purpose of implementation of a SOM. We then introduce
