Research of Processes of Products Fabrication by Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (SHS) Method

Solid State Phenomena, 2017
In this paper, the processes of forming the samples of powder materials based on the titanium – nickel and nickel – aluminium systems were investigated. The possibility of conducting self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) in the nickel – aluminium system without protective atmosphere is shown.

Processing of nano-structured TiB[sub 2] by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS)

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
Effect of different amounts of Mg as a reductant on processing of nano-crystalline titanium diboride (TiB2) ceramic powder synthesized via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) was investigated. Mixture of TiO2, H3BO3 and Mg powders were compacted and subjected to a hot filament on their top to SHS. Phase evolution, crystallite and particle

Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (SHS): A Simple Route to Carbon-Related Nanomaterials

2016
We propose the use of the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), often referred to as a combustion synthesis (CS), to produce different nanomaterials. We show specifically how this fast and autothermic route can be used to produce carbon-related products: silicon carbide nanowires (SiCNWs) and few-layered graphene (FLG).

In-situ neutron diffraction of titanium silicide, Ti5Si3, during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS)

Intermetallics, 2006
Abstract Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) has potential for the efficient production of high melting temperature intermetallics such as Ti5Si3. However, the process is poorly understood due to the difficulty of making in situ observations.

Thermisch gespritzte Al-Al2O3-Schichten von Fülldrähten mit „self propagating high temperature synthesis” (SHS) (Thermal Sprayed Al-Al2O3-Coatings from Cored Wires with Self Propagating High Temperature Synthesis)

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2002
Abstract In this paper, metal matrix composite layers are produced by thermal spraying using cored aluminum wire. Two types of wire were produced, one containing mechanically alloyed Al and Cr2O3 powders, the other, Al and AI2O3. The powders undergo self-propagating high temperature synthesis during the spraying process, which has a ...

Reaction chemistry during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) of H3BO3–ZrO2–Mg system

Materials Research Bulletin, 2007
Abstract In the present investigation, the ZrB2 powder is produced by SHS of mixture containing H3BO3, ZrO2 and Mg. The thermal analysis and XRD study reveal the reaction mechanism of ZrB2 formation by SHS process. Synthesis of H3BO3–Mg system results in formation of Mg3(BO3)2 and MgB4 phases, whereas ZrO2 is partially reduced to Zr3O and Zr during ...

A numerical study of the heterogeneous porosity effect on self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS)

Materials Research Bulletin, 2004
Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), or the so-called micropyretic/combustion synthesis, is a technique whereby a material is synthesized by the propagation of a combustion front across a powder. Heterogeneous distributions of porosities are common during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis when powders are pressed and the ...
