From Self-Similar Groups to Self-Similar Sets and Spectra [PDF]
The survey presents developments in the theory of self-similar groups leading to applications to the study of fractal sets and graphs, and their associated spectra.

Self-Similar Turbulent Dynamo [PDF]
The amplification of magnetic fields in a highly conducting fluid is studied numerically. During growth, the magnetic field is spatially intermittent: it does not uniformly fill the volume, but is concentrated in long thin folded structures. Contrary to a commonly held view, intermittency of the folded field does not increase indefinitely throughout ...

We introduce the self-similar sketch, a new method for the extraction of intermediate image features that combines three principles: detection of self-similarity structures, nonaccidental alignment, and instance-specific modelling. The method searches for self-similar image structures that form nonaccidental patterns, for example collinear arrangements.

In this work, we are concerned with the theoretical and numerical analysis of the pressure build-up on the cap of an aquifer during CO2 injection in saturated porous rock formations in all flow regimes of the problem.

Optimized Self-Similar Borel Summation
The method of Fractional Borel Summation is suggested in conjunction with self-similar factor approximants. The method used for extrapolating asymptotic expansions at small variables to large variables, including the variables tending to infinity, is ...

Kinematic self-similarity [PDF]
Self-similarity in general relativity is briefly reviewed and the differences between self-similarity of the first kind and generalized self-similarity are discussed. The covariant notion of a kinematic self-similarity in the context of relativistic fluid mechanics is defined.

Self-similar hyperbolicity [PDF]
In this paper we consider expansive homeomorphisms of compact spaces with a hyperbolic metric presenting a self-similar behavior on stable and unstable sets. Several applications are given related to Hausdorff dimension, entropy, intrinsically ergodic measures and the transitivity of expansive homeomorphisms with canonical coordinates.

Remaining Useful Life Prediction of Roller Bearings Based on Fractional Brownian Motion
Roller bearing degradation features fractal characteristics such as self-similarity and long-range dependence (LRD). However, the existing remaining useful life (RUL) prediction models are memoryless or short-range dependent.

Asymptotic Formula for the Moments of Lebesgue’s Singular Function
Recall Lebesgue’s singular function. Imagine flipping a biased coin with probability p of heads and probability q = 1 − p of tails. Let the binary expansion of ξ ∈ [0, 1]: ξ = ∑∞ k=1 ck2−k be determined by flipping the coin infinitely many times, that is ...

Self-Similarity for the Tricorn
We discuss self-similar property of the tricorn, the connectedness locus of the anti-holomorphic quadratic family. As a direct consequence of the study on straightening maps by Kiwi and the author, we show that there are many homeomorphic copies of the Mandelbrot sets.
