Health Care Use Among Patients Presenting to Emergency Department for Gout Flares in Ontario, Canada: A Population‐Based Health Systems Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We characterized emergency department (ED) gout visits and identified patient characteristics and health services patterns contributing to ED presentations. Methods We conducted a population‐based study of ED gout visits in Ontario, Canada, between 2014 and 2023.

Artificial Intelligence–Based Online Symptom Assessment Tools for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Diagnosis: Patient Perspectives

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective of this article is to identify perceptions of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) regarding artificial intelligence (AI)–based online symptom assessment tools, and the potential of these tools to address diagnostic barriers.

Self-similarity in the web [PDF]

open access: possibleACM Transactions on Internet Technology, 2002
Algorithmic tools for searching and mining the Web are becoming increasingly sophisticated and vital. In this context, algorithms that use and exploit structural information about the Web perform better than generic methods in both efficiency and reliability. We present an extensive characterization of the graph structure of the Web, with a view to ...

Interacting with Self-Similarity

Computer-Aided Design, 2021
Abstract Shape similarity is a fundamental problem in geometry processing, enabling applications such as surface correspondence, segmentation, and edit propagation. For example, a user may paint a stroke on one finger of a model and desire the edit to propagate to all fingers.

Self-similar etching

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2004
When a fiber is brought into contact with a soft etching liquid, a conical tip is generally shaped. We show here that the use of corrosive liquids which release gases during the etching reaction may lead to original self-similar shapes, because of successive pinning and detachment of the meniscus.

Self-Similarity Inpainting

2009 16th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2009
We present a novel means of texture inpainting, dubbed Self-Similarity Inpainting, that uses the Self-Similarity Descriptor to implicitly encode complex structures through a summary of local neighborhood comparisons. Pixel patches are selected from a codebook based on descriptor distance in their original locale and after the proposed insertion.

On the Aggregation of Self-Similar Processes

IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences, 2005
The problem of aggregating different stochastic process into a unique one that must be characterized based on the statistical knowledge of its components is a key point in the modeling of many complex phenomena such as the merging of traffic flows at network nodes.

Self-similarity in diffraction by a self-similar fractal screen

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1987
Using the Sierpinski gasket as an example, it has been shown here that the paraxial Fraunhoffer-zone diffracted field of a self-similar fractal screen also exhibits self-similarity. This also establishes that fractal structures can be used with great profit in problems involving array syntheses. Recently, it has been shown that the Sierpinski gasket is

Self-Similarity and Points of Interest

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2010
In this work, we present a new approach to interest point detection. Different types of features in images are detected by using a common computational concept. The proposed approach considers the total variability of local regions. The total sum of squares computed on the intensity values of a local circular region is divided into three components ...

Self-similar Fractals and Self-similar Energies

2003
We discuss the existence and uniqueness of diffusions adapted to self-similar finitely ramified fractals. An adapted diffusion has a space time scaling with respect to the self-similar scaling of the fractal and visits every open subset of the fractal.
