, 2012 We introduce the self-similar sketch, a new method for the extraction of intermediate image features that combines three principles: detection of self-similarity structures, nonaccidental alignment, and instance-specific modelling. The method searches for self-similar image structures that form nonaccidental patterns, for example collinear arrangements.

Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 2017 In this paper we consider expansive homeomorphisms of compact spaces with a hyperbolic metric presenting a self-similar behavior on stable and unstable sets. Several applications are given related to Hausdorff dimension, entropy, intrinsically ergodic measures and the transitivity of expansive homeomorphisms with canonical coordinates.

Experimental Mathematics, 2018 We discuss self-similar property of the tricorn, the connectedness locus of the anti-holomorphic quadratic family. As a direct consequence of the study on straightening maps by Kiwi and the author, we show that there are many homeomorphic copies of the Mandelbrot sets.
