[Research on Self-tapping Performance Test of Self-tapping Bone Screws].

Zhongguo yi liao qi xie za zhi = Chinese journal of medical instrumentation, 2022
To study the self-tapping performance test method of self-tapping bone screws based on the YY/T 1505 standard. With reference to the method of YY/T 1505, various factors affecting the self-tapping force test was optimised, and the self-tapping force judgment method was improved. The experimental results showed that the self-tapping force obtained by the ...

Pullout Strength of Self-Tapping Screws Inserted to Different Depths

Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2005
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the depth of insertion through the far cortex of self-tapping screws significantly affects pullout strength.Fifty, Synthes, 3.5-mm, self-tapping screws were inserted into synthetic bone blocks and divided into 5 groups. Group 1 had screws with their tips inserted 1 mm short of the far cortex.

Comparison of Compression and Torque Measurements of Self-Tapping and Pretapped Screws

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1989
The choice of an internal fixation system for maxillofacial surgery is made difficult because of lack of information with respect to functional load. This study attempted to clarify some of the controversy with respect to maxillofacial use of these implants. Maximal compressive force to torque values were measured in standardized bone thicknesses of 1,

The effect of repetitive screw hole use on the retentive strength of pretapped and self-tapped screws

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1990
Multiple systems for internal screw fixation are presently in use in oral and maxillofacial surgery. These systems differ in screw diameter, material, and design. This study evaluated the uniaxial pullout strength of five screw systems. Two-millimeter, 2.7-mm, and 3.5-mm screws were initially evaluated for pullout strength.

Self-tapping Screws as Reinforcement for Structural Timber Elements

2021
The use of self-tapping screws is a state-of-the-art practice in fastener and reinforcement technologies for timber structures. The high axial stiffness and load-carrying capacity of self-tapping screws, together with their easy handling, make them one of the most economical choices for applications in both fastener and reinforcement domains.

Self-tapping screw fixation of the Austin osteotomy.

The Journal of foot surgery, 1990
The authors present an alternative method of fixation for the Austin bunionectomy using the Richards self-tapping screw. A description of the screw and method of application is included. In more than 250 osteotomies fixated by this technique, no complications inherent to the self-tapping screw have been encountered.

Delayed fracture on self-tapping screws

2013
Hydrogen induced fracture on two different screw stocks (UNI C16 modified and UNI C23BKD) was analysed.Fracture toughness has been evaluated by area reduction measurements carried out on carbonitrided specimens, fractured by tensile test, and rupture angle measurements on specimens broken by torsion tests.Specimens were cathodically charged with ...

Mechanical properties of self-tapping screws and nails in wood

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2002
This paper presents results of a research programme investigating the mechanical properties of self-tapping screws and nails in wood. The programme consisted of deformation-controlled tests to determine embedment strength, withdrawal strength, pull-through strength, bending capacity of individual screws, shear strength of screwed and nailed wood–wood ...
