PREDICTION OF WITHDRAWAL STIFFNESS OF SELF-TAPPING SCREWS
World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE 2023), 2023: Self-tapping screw is a new generation of fasteners which is often inserted into the face of timber membersat an angle to develop stiff and strong connections. The withdrawal stiffness of self-tapping screws is an important property that influences the performance of the connection.

Geometric Generalization of Self Tapping Screw Insertion Model
2021 43rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2021Bone screws are used in orthopaedic procedures to fix implants and stabilise fractures. These procedures require care, as improperly torquing the screws can lead to implant failure or tissue damage, potentially requiring revision surgery or causing further disability.

Investigating Torque-Speed Relationship of Self-Tapping Screws
2021 43rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2021Correctly torquing bone screws is important to prevent fixation failures and ensure positive patient outcomes. It has been proposed that an automatic model-based method may be able to determine the patient-specific material properties of bone, and provide objective and quantitative torquing recommendations.

AO/ASIF self-tapping screws (STS)
Injury, 1993The term self-tapping screw refers to screws which are inserted into a predrilled hole directly without first tapping a thread. A self-drilling screw would refer to a screw inserted without predrilling which would function similar to a threaded K-wire. Selftapping screws are further subdivided into threadfarming and thread-cutting screws.

Self-Drilling and Self-Tapping Screws
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2010The aim of the current study was to compare self-drilling and self-tapping screws with regard to bone contact and the production of bone debris using scanning electron microscopy.Three New Zealand rabbit calvariae were used. Self-tapping and self-drilling screws were inserted into the outer surface of the skull with and without saline solution ...

The heads of self-tapping and non-self-tapping screws in dog femurs were exposed to a cyclic shearing force of 110 N for 200 loading cycles. This cyclic shear loading created a decrease in pull-out strength for both screw types of approximately 11% (p less than 0.01).

Analysis of the osseous/metal interface of drill free screws and self-tapping screws
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, 2001Aim: A comparison of metal/osseous interface and bone remodelling after insertion of different types of titanium bone screws in vivo. Material: Samples of five of each of the following bone screw types were inserted into the anterior wall of the frontal sinus of five Göttingen minipigs: self-tapping micro- (1.5 mm) and miniscrews (2.0 mm) or drill free

[Research on Self-tapping Performance Test of Self-tapping Bone Screws].
Zhongguo yi liao qi xie za zhi = Chinese journal of medical instrumentation, 2022To study the self-tapping performance test method of self-tapping bone screws based on the YY/T 1505 standard. With reference to the method of YY/T 1505, various factors affecting the self-tapping force test was optimised, and the self-tapping force judgment method was improved. The experimental results showed that the self-tapping force obtained by the ...

Simulation of a Screw Self-tapping Process
2019With the ever-increasing demand to use lightweight materials in the automotive industry, automakers are keen on using plastics across their products. Plastics are predominantly held together using adhesives, screws, or snaps. Screws are promising when axial reinforcement between the components is desired. Self-tapping screws are now the preferred type,

Pullout Strength of Self-Tapping Screws Inserted to Different Depths
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2005The purpose of this study was to determine whether the depth of insertion through the far cortex of self-tapping screws significantly affects pullout strength.Fifty, Synthes, 3.5-mm, self-tapping screws were inserted into synthetic bone blocks and divided into 5 groups. Group 1 had screws with their tips inserted 1 mm short of the far cortex.
