Speed-torque relationship for self-tapping bone screw insertion

open access: yes, 2021
Bone screws are used for fixing implants and stabilizing fractures. Correct torquing of these screws is important for positive patient outcomes. A previously proposed model-based system may increase the accuracy of bone screw insertion, but this depends on the accuracy of the model.

Heterogeneous Multilayer Nanopores via Chemically Tuned Dielectric Breakdown for Single‐Molecule Sensing

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A scalable fabrication method based on chemically tuned controlled dielectric breakdown (CT‐CDB) enables heterogeneous multilayer nanopores integrating SiNx with 2D materials such as hBN, MoS2, and graphene. The resulting nanopores exhibit distinct electrokinetic behaviors and low noise, allowing structure‐dependent single‐protein sensing.

Incremental upper bound modeling of concrete failures in timber‐concrete notched connections

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper introduces a novel theoretical framework for developing incremental upper bound solutions, which is applied to predict the response of two local concrete failures in timber‐concrete composite (TCC) decks with notched connections. The new approach enables a prediction of the capacity at the onset of failure as well as the entire post‐
