Self-pollination in the genus Erica
The ability of flowers to self-pollinate was investigated in eight species of the diverse Erica genus. Self-pollination was found to occur in five out of the eight species, with mainly bird pollinated species having a high degree of selfing. The use of a broken anther ring as an indication of visitation and pollination of the flowers was also ...

Three molecular profiles identified among Art v 1/Amb a 4‐sensitized patients: Art v 1 monosensitization, Amb a 4 monosensitization, and dual sensitization to both allergens. Art v 1 monosensitization was predominantly associated with allergic rhinitis, reflecting a classical airborne allergy pattern.

Can and do Ericas self pollinate?
Within the Cape Floristic Region many lineages are characterised by large floral diversity. The genus Erica is one of these lineages, making up -7% of the CFR. Surprisingly, even though pollinators have been suggested to be a driving force of floral morphology, the role of pollinators in the floral diversification and speciation of this genus is not ...

Allergic Sensitization to Inhalant Allergens in the Upper Respiratory Tract—the B Cell Side
ABSTRACT Allergic diseases are on the rise worldwide, driven by respiratory epithelial barrier dysfunction that promotes sensitization to inhalant allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, and fungal spores. These antigens trigger IgE‐mediated immune responses that lead to diseases such as allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma.
