SEM/EDS comparison of polar and seasonal temperate ice
Microscopy Research and Technique, 2003AbstractWe have developed a method employing a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy for examining uncoated ice specimens. By permitting the ice to sublimate in the SEM at temperatures between −115° and −60°C, enough ions are produced to prevent specimen charging.

Analysis of microtraces in invasive traumas using SEM/EDS
Forensic Science International, 2012Scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDS) is a proven forensic tool and has been used to analyze several kinds of trace evidence. A forensic application of SEM/EDS is the examination of morphological characteristics of tool marks that tools and instruments leave on bone.

Characterization of Pyrotechnic Reaction Residue Particles by SEM/EDS
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2003Abstract Today the method commonly used for detecting gunshot residue is through the combined use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). In recent years, this same methodology began to find use in detecting and characterizing pyrotechnic reaction residue (PRR) particles whether produced by ...

Automated SEM-EDS GSR Analysis for Turkish Ammunitions
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007In this work, Automated Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X‐ray Spectrometry (SEM‐EDS) was used to characterize 7.65 and 9mm cartridges Turkish ammunition. All samples were analyzed in a SEM Jeol JSM‐5600LV equipped BSE detector and a Link ISIS 300 (EDS).

Nitrogen determination by SEM‐EDS and elemental analysis
X-Ray Spectrometry, 2013This paper describes a methodology for the analysis of nitrogen by scanning electron microscope with an energy dispersive X‐ray spectrometer (SEM‐EDS). The methodology was developed to have a rapid and accurate alternative method to the elemental analysis by combustion and thermoconductivity detection that does not imply the decomposition of the sample.

SEM/EDS study of metal-assisted oxide desorption
Surface Science, 2010Strongly-enhanced desorption of a thick (100 nm) silicon oxide layer by the pre-sputtering of a thin germanium surface film was observed under high-temperature vacuum annealing conditions. High-resolution SEM imaging reveals that germanium nanoislands are first formed on the sample surface, and that these then act as nucleation centres for the ...
