Analytic/Synthetic and Semantic Theory

Synthese, 1970
A somewhat simplified version of Jerrold J. Katz’s theory of the analytic/ synthetic distinction for natural languages is presented. Katz’s account is criticized on the following grounds. (1) the ‘antonymy operator’ is not well defined; it leaves certain sentences without readings.

VISTA: A visual analytics platform for semantic annotation of trajectories

International Conference on Extending Database Technology, 2019
Most of the trajectory datasets only record the spatio-temporal position of the moving object, thus lacking semantics and this is due to the fact that this information mainly depends on the domain expert labeling, a time-consuming and complex process ...

Semantic Activity Analytics for Healthy Aging: Challenges and Opportunities

IEEE pervasive computing, 2018
As real-life activity data from many aging individuals become available, insights gleaned from such data could be leveraged to foster healthy aging. The emerging field of semantic activity analytics is addressing this challenge.

Analyticity and Possible-World Semantics

Erkenntnis, 2010
Standard approaches to possible-world semantics allow us to define necessity and logical truth, but analyticity is considerably more difficult to account for. The source of this difficulty lies in the received model-theoretical conception of a language interpretation.

Semantic Analytics in Intelligence

2006
We describe an ontological approach for determining the relevance of documents based on the underlying concept of exploiting complex semantic relationships among real-world entities. This research builds upon semantic metadata extraction and annotation, practical domain-specific ontology creation, main-memory query processing, and the notion of ...

Carnap and the Semantical Explication of Analyticity

2012
Despite the progress made for some time now in understanding Carnap’s work, owing in particular to the concerted efforts of a certain number of distinguished Carnap scholars, his work in semantics still does not seem to be understood well and Carnap continues to be, just as in the good old days, misunderstood, caricatured, accused of sins he did not ...

Lexical Semantic Relatedness for Twitter Analytics

2015 IEEE 27th International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (ICTAI), 2015
Existing work in the semantic relatedness literature has already considered various information sources such as WordNet, Wikipedia and Web search engines to identify the semantic relatedness between two words. We will show that existing semantic relatedness measures might not be directly applicable to microblogging content such as tweets due to i) the ...

Analytic Tableaux for Non-deterministic Semantics

2021
Analytic tableau systems for the family of non-deterministic semantics are introduced. These are based on tableaux for many-valued logics using sets-as-signs DNF representations. Karnaugh maps illustrate the construction of tableau rules. In contrast to classical many-valued tableaux, we add a rule called sign intersection.
