A Categorical Semantics for Hierarchical Petri Nets [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2021
We show how a particular variety of hierarchical nets, where the firing of a transition in the parent net must correspond to an execution in some child net, can be modelled utilizing a functorial semantics from a free category -- representing the parent net -- to the category of sets and spans between them.

When Meaning Is Not Enough: Distributional and Semantic Cues to Word Categorization in Child Directed Speech

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
One of the most important tasks in first language development is assigning words to their grammatical category. The Semantic Bootstrapping Hypothesis postulates that, in order to accomplish this task, children are guided by a neat correspondence between ...

Visual Verbal Information Processing under Conditions of Reading and Categorization in Schizotypy: An Event-Related Brain Potential Study

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Neuroscience, 2023
Background: Some individuals exhibit symptoms that resemble schizophrenia, but these manifestations are less in the degree to those seen in schizophrenia. Such a latent personality construct has been called schizotypy.

Effects of Emotional and Sensorimotor Knowledge in Semantic Processing of Concrete and Abstract Nouns

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2012
There is much empirical evidence that words’ relative imageability and body-object interaction (BOI) facilitate lexical processing for concrete nouns (e.g., Bennett, Burnett, Siakaluk, & Pexman, 2011).

SEMANTIC MEASURE BASED ON FEATURES IN LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE SOURCES

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Information Technology and Multimedia, 2017
Semantic measures between concepts require some of cognitive capabilities such as categorization and reasoning to estimate semantic association among concepts.

Categorical semantics of compositional reinforcement learning

open access: yesJ. Mach. Learn. Res., 2022
Compositional knowledge representations in reinforcement learning (RL) facilitate modular, interpretable, and safe task specifications. However, generating compositional models requires the characterization of minimal assumptions for the robustness of the compositionality feature, especially in the case of functional decompositions. Using a categorical

Novel Word Learning: Event-Related Brain Potentials Reflect Pure Lexical and Task-Related Effects

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2019
Previous research has pointed out that the combination of orthographic and semantic-associative training is a more advantageous strategy for the lexicalization of novel written word-forms than their single orthographic training.

Spatial and Temporal Features of Superordinate Semantic Processing Studied with fMRI and EEG.

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2013
The relationships between the anatomical representation of semantic knowledge in the human brain and the timing of neurophysiological mechanisms involved in manipulating such information remain unclear.

Mechanisms of Different Types of Figurative Expressions Processing

open access: yesЭкспериментальная психология, 2021
Modern models of figurative language processing postulate that figurative expressions (FE), e.g. metaphors, are processed through inclusion of one FE component to the category of another.

Neuromagnetic brain activities associated with perceptual categorization and sound-content incongruency: a comparison between monosyllabic words and pitch names

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2015
In human cultures, the perceptual categorization of musical pitches relies on pitch-naming systems. A sung pitch name concurrently holds the information of fundamental frequency and pitch name.
