On Quantifying Semantic Information
The purpose of this paper is to look at some existing methods of semantic information quantification and suggest some alternatives. It begins with an outline of Bar-Hillel and Carnap’s theory of semantic information before going on to look at Floridi’s ...

Correspondence Theory of Semantic Information
A novel account of semantic information is proposed. The gist is that structural correspondence, analyzed in terms of similarity, underlies an important kind of semantic information. In contrast to extant accounts of semantic information, it does not rely on correlation, covariation, causation, natural laws, or logical inference.

Molecular codes in biological and chemical reaction networks. [PDF]
Shannon's theory of communication has been very successfully applied for the analysis of biological information. However, the theory neglects semantic and pragmatic aspects and thus cannot directly be applied to distinguish between (bio-) chemical ...

Semantic communications for future: basic principle and implementation methodology
The basic principle of semantic communications and the associated implementation methodology were introduced.First, the systematic model of semantic communications was proposed and basic concepts and terminology were deduced by comparing the fundamental ...

Semantic Information G Theory and Logical Bayesian Inference for Machine Learning
An important problem in machine learning is that, when using more than two labels, it is very difficult to construct and optimize a group of learning functions that are still useful when the prior distribution of instances is changed.

Towards a Semantic Information Theory (Introducing Quantum Corollas)
The field of Information Theory is founded on Claude Shannon's seminal ideas relating to entropy. Nevertheless, his well-known avoidance of meaning (Shannon, 1948) still persists to this day, so that Information Theory remains poorly connected to many fields with clear informational content and a dependence on semantics.

From Data to Semantic Information
: There is no consensus yet on the definition of semantic information. This paper contributes to the current debate by criticising and revising the Standard Definition of semantic Information (SDI) as meaningful data, in favour of the Dretske-Grice ...

A Critical Analysis of Floridi’s Theory of Semantic Information [PDF]
In various publications over the past years, Floridi has developed a theory of semantic information as well-formed, meaningful, and truthful data. This theory is more or less orthogonal to the standard entropy-based notions of information known from physics, information theory, and computer science that all define the amount of information in a certain

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Semantic applications for ontological information theory
Abstract Information theory is a field that has applications in several scientific domains. This field, which was initially proposed by Claude Shannon, is interdisciplinary; it combines probability, electrical engineering, information engineering, computer science, and statistics.
