Unified transaction model for semantically rich operations

open access: yes, 1994
We present here a unified transaction model for database systems with semantically rich operations. Based on the work in [SWY93], we develop constructive correctness criteria that encompass both serializability and failure atomicity in a uniform manner.

Semantic Richness Effects in Memory

open access: yes, 2015
The semantic richness of a word is multidimensional, and includes dimensions such as semantic neighborhood density, imageability, number of features, and valence. While certain dimensions (e.g., imageability) have been examined in the memory domain, the bulk of semantic richness research has been confined to visual word recognition tasks. Therefore, it

SURFACE: Semantically Rich Fact Validation with Explanations

open access: yes, 2018
Judging the veracity of a sentence making one or more claims is an important and challenging problem with many dimensions. The recent FEVER task asked participants to classify input sentences as either SUPPORTED, REFUTED or NotEnoughInfo using Wikipedia as a source of true facts.

Harnessing Digital Microstructure for Simulation‐Guided Optimization of Permanent Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
An experimental‐to‐computational workflow is presented that transforms experimental 3D focused ion beam‐scanning electron microscopy data into a simulation‐ready digital microstructure for multiphase functional materials. Using heavy‐rare‐earth‐free Nd–Fe–B magnets as a model system, the approach quantifies grain connectivity across complex secondary ...

Prediction of Students’ Grade by Combining Educational Knowledge Graph and Collaborative Filtering

open access: yesIEEE Access
Traditional collaborative filtering-based grade prediction methods overly rely on students’ historical grades and overlook the content correlation between courses, resulting in lower accuracy in predicting student grades.

Three symbol ungrounding problems: Abstract concepts and the future of embodied cognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A great deal of research has focused on the question of whether or not concepts are embodied as a rule. Supporters of embodiment have pointed to studies that implicate affective and sensorimotor systems in cognitive tasks, while critics of embodiment ...

Composition‐Aware Cross‐Sectional Integration for Spatial Transcriptomics

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Multi‐section spatial transcriptomics demands coherent cell‐type deconvolution, domain detection, and batch correction, yet existing pipelines treat these tasks separately. FUSION unifies them within a composition‐aware latent framework, modeling reads as cell‐type–specific topics and clustering in embedding space.
