Semantic Search Exploiting Formal Concept Analysis, Rough Sets, and Wikipedia
International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems (IJSWIS), 2018This article describes how the traditional web search is essentially based on a combination of textual keyword searches with an importance ranking of the documents depending on the link structure of the web.

In this paper we describe the current performance of our MediaMill system as presented in the TRECVID 2006 benchmark for video search engines. The MediaMill team participated in two tasks: concept detection and search. For concept detection we use the MediaMill Challenge as experimental platform.

We consider the task of generating operational semantics, defined as axiomatizations of relations such as e → v, from an equality theory, given as a set of equations {e1 = e2}. We generate these semantics by constructing derived rules based on equations provable in this equality theory and constrained by a simple correctness criteria.

Semantic search seems to be an elusive and fuzzy target to many researchers. One of the reasons is that the task lies in between several areas of specialization. In this extended abstract we review some of the ideas we have been investigating while approaching this problem.

Concept Search: Semantics Enabled Syntactic Search [PDF]
Historically, information retrieval (IR) has followed two principally different paths that we call syntactic IR and semantic IR. In syntactic IR, terms are represented as arbitrary sequences of characters and IR is performed through the computation of string similarity.
