Semantic transparency affects the phonetic signal

open access: yes
Previous research has highlighted the impact of phonological factors and morphological structure on compound pronunciation, but the role of semantics in this interplay remains largely unexplored. Building on psycholinguistic findings that demonstrate semantic effects in compound processing, this study examines whether these effects extend to the ...

DUET‐seq: An Open‐Source Droplet Platform for High‐Fidelity Joint Chromatin and Transcriptome Profiling Reveals Temporal Regulatory Decoupling in Single Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
DUET‐seq is an open‐source droplet platform that jointly profiles chromatin accessibility and gene expression from the same nucleus. Dissolvable dual‐linker hydrogel beads and a one‐step intra‐droplet RT‐PCR co‐index both modalities in under 12 h at roughly $0.04 per cell.

Pseudo‐Haptic Feedback: Multi‐Modal Approaches to Stiffness Perception and User Experience

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Can visual deformation substitute for physical haptic feedback? In immersive VR, deformation‐based pseudo‐haptics enables stiffness discrimination comparable to wearable force feedback, while their combination yields the highest performance and presence without increasing workload.

Towards Transparent Systems: Semantic Characterization of Failure Modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Today’s computer vision systems are not perfect. They fail frequently. Even worse, they fail abruptly and seemingly inexplicably. We argue that making our systems more transparent via an explicit human understandable characterization of their failure modes is desirable.

Spatiotemporal Computational Meta‐Imager for Broadband Dual‐Layer Optical Convolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A single‐layer polarization‐multiplexed meta‐imager achieves factorized dual‐layer broadband convolution via spatiotemporal kernel decomposition. Fixed Bessel‐vortex bases and time‐sequential liquid‐crystal modulation deliver tunable signed weights and in‐situ fabrication‐error compensation. Experiments verify improved classification performance across
