Semen quality and semen storage.

2009
AbstractPoultry semen quality and semen storage respectively can be considered in terms of the intrinsic components of spermatozoa and seminal plasma and their properties, and of the oviducal sperm-storage systems and their regulation. However, the focus of this chapter is on the technologies for assessing semen quality and for storing semen in vitro ...

Aluminum content of human semen: Implications for semen quality

Reproductive Toxicology, 2014
A deterioration of human semen quality has been observed over recent decades. A possible explanation could be an increased exposure to environmental pollutants, including aluminum. Our aim was to measure the aluminum concentration in the semen of 62 patients and to carry out a preliminary evaluation on its impact on specific semen parameters.

Detection of macrophages in rabbit semen and their relationship with semen quality

Theriogenology, 2017
We aimed at the evaluating the occurrence of macrophages in rabbit semen and finding possible relationship between macrophage concentration and spermatozoa quality. The concentration of macrophages in semen samples from broiler rabbit males of lines M91 and P91 (n = 30) without overt evidence of genital tract infections was determined using monocyte ...

Detection of Orosomucoid 1 Phenotypes in Semen and Semen Stains

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1989
Abstract Orosomucoid 1 phenotypes were detected in seminal plasma by isoelectric focusing and immunoprinting. The orosomucoid 1 phenotypes in seminal plasma correlated with the types found in the corresponding serum specimens. Semen stains stored for ten days could be typed for orosomucoid 1.

Cryopreservation of Mammalian Semen

2007
Mammalian spermatozoa were among the very first cells to be successfully cryopreserved and over the last five decades the use of frozen-thawed semen for artificial insemination has come to play an important role in domestic livestock production. More recently, semen freezing has increasingly been utilized in the establishment of genetic resource banks ...

Bacteriology of preserved stallion semen and antibiotics in semen extenders

Theriogenology, 1998
Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of different antibiotics in a milk-glucose semen extender on motility of equine sperm and elimination of bacteria following storage of extended semen in vitro. In Experiment 1, 7 antibiotics were compared: amikacin, gentamicin, streptomycin, potassium penicillin, sodium penicillin, ticarcillin ...

The Antibacterial Activity of Semen and its Relation to Semen Proteins

Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, 1973
The antibacterial effect (ABE) of 97 human semen specimens was tested against Staph. albus, Staph. aureus and E. coli using a disc method. A positive ABE could be shown in 21 specimens. Microzone electrophoresis as well as total protein determination were done from all specimens.
