Semi-rigid composite construction

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1990
Abstract The strength, ductility and stiffness of ordinary steel frames can be significantly improved by composite action. This can be achieved by providing a few continuous reinforcing bars across the column lines and ensuring full composite action through the use of suffcient shear studs.

Semi-rigid Composite Steel Frames

Engineering Journal, 1987
Semi-rigid, composite steel frames are a new type of structural system being developed to better utilize the composite floor slabs and flexible connections present in common AISC Type 2 frames. This new structural system extends the beneficial aspects of composite action to the negative moment region of continuous beams by providing slab reinforcement ...

Mobility and orientation of semi‐rigid polyesters

Macromolecular Symposia, 1999
AbstractMobility and orientational behavior of semi‐flexible polyesters from diphenyl‐dicarbonic acid and some branched propyl‐and butyl spacers have been investigated using static NMR techniques. Increasing molar mass of the polymers was found to influence the mobility of the rigid parts of the polymer chain while the spacer remains almost unaffected ...

Numerical Modelling of Semi-Rigid Boltless Connectors

Civil-Comp Proceedings, 2001
Abstract The paper describes a finite element analysis of a boltless semi-rigid beam-end connector used in the storage rack industry. An elastic three-dimensional linear analysis of the connector was made and the results compared with experiments. The effects of different boundary conditions were investigated. Sub-models of the part of the upright in

Composite Semi-Rigid Construction

Engineering Journal, 1994
Over the past twenty years several hundred articles on analysis and behavior of semi-rigid steel frames have appeared in the technical literature.1 This body of knowledge indicates that semi-rigid or partially restrained (PR) frames possess many economical, constructional, and technical advantages over rigid frames and frame-shear wall systems. However,

Practical Analysis of Semi- Rigid Frames

Engineering Journal, 1990
This study attempts to introduce a simplified method of flexible frame analysis that builds on some aspects of the already established AISC/LRFD design approaches, namely the B1 and B2 amplification factor method. Two idealized connection models are proposed: The first is a modified initial stiffness representation; the second is a model determined by ...

Stability of semi-rigid space frames

Computers & Structures, 1988
Abstract This paper presents a modified stiffness matrix method for obtaining the elastic buckling load of semi-rigid space frames. This is an extension of the method applied to semi-rigid plane frames. Again the method, besides accounting for the partial rigidity of the joints, also considers the effects of flexure on axial stiffness, geometric ...

Behavior of Semi-rigid Composite Connections

Engineering Journal, 1987
The 1978 AISC Specification allows three types of framing. Type 1 is for fully rigid moment connections, Type 2 is for pinned connections (although the moment capacity inherent in these connections is recognized and assumed to act in resistance of wind loads), and Type 3 is for semi-rigid connections.

New super-hairy semi-rigid polymers

Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, 1998
Living monofunctional poly(tetramethylene oxyde) (PTMO) (THF bulk polymerization initiated at 20°C by methyl triflate) was end capped by reaction with 3-(dimethylamino)propyl isocyanide. Selective and quantitative quaternization of the tertiary amine function results in the straightforward synthesis of PTMO macromonomers of the isocyanide type with a ...

Semi-rigid Steelwork Connections

This thesis sets out to assess the stiffness of typical fin plate steelwork connections. The classification of joints as pinned, semi-rigid or fixed is described and the different models of moment-rotation relationship are explained. Eurocode treatment of steelwork connections is assessed with particular emphasis on joint stiffness.
