Metachromatic Butterfly Bile Pigments for Multi‐Level Optical Security Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐derived optical security materials are manufactured by embedding butterfly‐based pigments in polymer films. Tunable color and fluorescence responses arise from concentration‐controlled metachromasy, enabling spatially encoded patterns with distinct visible, UV‐active, and spectral signatures.

Structural Behaviour of Trapezoidal Web Profiled Steel Beam Section using Partial Strength Connection

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Structural Engineering, 2008
Connections are usually designed as pinned which associated with simple construction or rigid which is associated with continuous construction. However, the actual behaviour falls between these two extreme cases.

A Calculation Method for Interconnected Timber Elements Using Wood-Wood Connections

open access: yesBuildings, 2020
Wood-wood connections, widely used in the past, have been progressively replaced by steel fasteners in timber constructions. Currently, they can be manufactured and implemented more efficiently thanks to digital fabrication techniques.

The Floor‐Ceiling‐Chip, or 2 × 2D = Pseudo‐3D—Approaching 3D Cell Morphology and Organization between Two Opposing 2D Substrates with Cell‐Adhesive Protein Micropatterns

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a novel 3D cell patterning and culture platform. The “Floor‐Ceiling‐Chip” (FC‐Chip) consists of two opposing track‐etched membranes, creating a pseudo‐3D microenvironment for the cells in between. By providing the membranes with micropatterned cell‐adhesive islands of varying geometries and sizes, the FC‐Chip enables control over cell ...

Optimization of the bending stiffness of beam-to-column and column-to-foundation connections in precast concrete structures

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais
This work involved the structural optimization of precast concrete rigid frames with semi-rigid beam-to-column connections. To this end, several frames were simulated numerically using the Finite Element Method.

Evaluation of the equivalent slip modulus of nailed connections for application in linear analysis of plywood timber beams

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2008
The study of the stiffness of laterally loaded semi-rigid connections in plywood-timber beams is justified by the influence that the deformation of the connection has on the overall displacements of the structure. Semi-rigid connections are characterized

Melt Electrowriting High Resolution Poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) Scaffolds for Soft Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work pioneers melt electrowriting (MEW) of polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA) to fabricate ultra‐compliant, high‐resolution scaffolds. By integrating microscale precision with soft tissue‐like biomechanics, PEVA overcomes stiffness‐driven limitations of conventional MEW polymers, establishing a mechanically biomimetic platform for soft tissue ...

Classification System for Semi-Rigid Beam-to-Column Connections

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
The current study attempts to recognise an adequate classification for a semi-rigid beam-to-column connection by investigating strength, stiffness and ductility. For this purpose, an experimental test was carried out to investigate the moment-rotation (M-

Displacement Study of a Large-Scale Freeform Timber Plate Structure Using a Total Station and a Terrestrial Laser Scanner

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Recent advances in timber construction have led to the realization of complex timber plate structures assembled with wood-wood connections. Although advanced numerical modelling tools have been developed to perform their structural analysis, limited ...
