Smaller posterior semicircular canals are associated with leaping in Colobus

open access: yes, 2015
The semicircular canals of the inner ear are the organ of balance, tracking head rotation during movement and facilitating reflexive stabilisation of vision.

Development of and adherence to artificial gravity and resistive vibration exercises during 60 days of hypoxic 6° head‐down tilt bed rest: BRAVE study

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Artificial gravity (AG) combined with resistive vibration exercise has been proposed as a multi‐system countermeasure for long‐duration spaceflight; however, its operational feasibility during prolonged unloading remains insufficiently characterised.

Breuer’s Experiments on the Semicircular Canals and Otolith Organs

open access: yes, 2016
After his groundbreaking work in the mid-1860s, Josef Breuer continued to perform experiments on the inner ear balance receptors in animals. He studied the macules of fish, reptiles, and birds and noted that all these creatures had three macules arranged

A contribution to the anatomy of two rare cetacean species: The hourglass dolphin (Cephalorhynchus cruciger) and the spectacled porpoise (Phocoena dioptrica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 7, Page 1797-1820, July 2026.
Abstract The anatomical description of the hourglass dolphin (Cephalorhynchus cruciger) and the spectacled porpoise (Phocoena dioptrica) remains largely unexplored, due to limited specimen availability and preservation challenges. This study employed digital imaging techniques, conventional histology, and computed tomography to provide visualization of

Posture control in Pusher syndrome: influence of lateral semicircular canals

open access: yes, 2005
SummaryPusher syndrome is an interesting disorder of balance in patients with encephalic lesions characterized by the peculiar behavior of actively pushing away from the non-hemiparetic side and resisting against passive correction, with a tendency to ...

Anti‐Compensatory Saccades Changes After Visuo‐Vestibular Physical Therapy in People With Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesPhysiotherapy Research International, Volume 31, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Purpose Acute unilateral vestibulopathy (AUVP) impairs the vestibulo‐ocular reflex (VOR), leading to gaze instability and significant functional disability. Anti‐compensatory saccades (AcS) assessed using the Suppression Head Impulse Paradigm (SHIMP) reflect vestibulo‐saccadic interaction and may represent a marker of central ...

Feasibility and reproducibility of a novel introital exo‐anal ultrasound approach for assessment of the external anal sphincter

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 7, Page 1309-1317, July 2026.
A three‐dimensional introital exo‐anal ultrasound approach combining high‐frequency imaging with curvilinear reconstruction enables reproducible visualization and measurement of the anterior external anal sphincter. This method provides a feasible, widely accessible tool for detailed anatomical assessment of the anal sphincter complex.
