Semiclassical theory of noise in multielement semiconductor lasers [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1986
We present a derivation of the noise spectra of multielement semiconductor lasers. We model the noise by a set of Langevin sources which drive a system of small-signal field equations. The Langevin sources are normalized to transition rates within the laser and general formulas for relative intensity, frequency fluctuation, and field spectra are ...

Feedback phase sensitivity of a semiconductor laser subject to filtered optical feedback: Experiment and theory

open access: greenPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2007
We investigate experimentally and theoretically the dynamics of a semiconductor laser subject to filtered optical feedback. Depending on the feedback strength we find dynamical regimes with different dependence on the feedback phase.

Theory of optical modes in semiconductor microdisk lasers [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Applied Physics, 1997
A method for the calculation of optical modes in disk-like resonant cavities is presented. The eigenvalue equation for resonant wavelengths and threshold optical gain as well as the optical field distribution is established. The characteristics of the optical modes in microdisk lasers are studied using this method.

Theory of microscopic semiconductor lasers with external optical feedback

open access: goldOptics Express, 2021
The properties of microscopic semiconductor lasers with external optical feedback are theoretically analysed. The size-dependence of the critical feedback level, at which the laser first becomes unstable, is clarified, showing how the dominant indicator of feedback stability is the gain of the laser, irrespective of size.

Two-state semiconductor laser self-mixing velocimetry exploiting coupled quantum-dot emission-states: experiment, simulation and theory

open access: goldOptics Express, 2014
We exploit the coupled emission-states of a single-chip semiconductor InAs/GaAs quantum-dot laser emitting simultaneously on ground-state (λ(GS) = 1245 nm) and excited-state (λ(ES) = 1175 nm) to demonstrate coupled-two-state self-mixing velocimetry for a

A SEMICLASSICAL THEORY OF NEGATIVE FEEDBACK SEMICONDUCTOR LASER [PDF]

open access: hybridActa Physica Sinica, 1989
In this paper, a semiclassical rate equation model has been established and the FM noise power spectrum calculated. We show that the spectral line width can be narrowed by the negative electrical feedback technique. Within the feedback loop bandwidth, the chirp-power-ratio (CPR) is reduced by a factor of 1+H, it shows that this kind of laser can be ...

Theory for passive mode-locking in semiconductor laser structures including the effects of self-phase modulation, dispersion, and pulse collisions [PDF]

open access: green, 1996
We present a theory for passive mode-locking in semiconductor laser structures using a semiconductor laser amplifier and absorber. The mode-locking system is described in terms of the different elements in the semiconductor laser structure.

New Evidence for a Nonclassical Behavior of Laser Multimode Light

open access: yesOptics, 2022
In this work, we present new experimental evidence of a nonclassical behavior of a multimode Fabry–Perot (FP) semiconductor laser by the measurements of intensity correlation functions.
