Perfect nonlinear binomials and their semifields

open access: yesFinite Fields and Their Applications, 2009
The authors show that the binomial \[ F(x) = x^{p^s+1}-u^{p^k-1}x^{p^k+p^{2k+s}}\tag{b} \] is a perfect nonlinear (PN) mapping on \(\text{GF}(p^n)\) if \(p\) is an odd prime, \(n=3k\), \(\gcd(3,k) = 1\), \(k \equiv s \bmod 3\), \(n/\gcd(s,n)\) is odd and \(u\) is a primitive element of \(\text{GF}(p^n)\). The APN-ness of binomials of this shape for \(p=

Study on daily and reproduction activity of melon weevil, Acythopeus curvirostris persicus (Col.: Curculionidae), in Birjand, Iran [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران, 2013
Melon weevil, Acytopeus curvirostris persicus Thompson, is one of the most important pests of melons that is spread in the Middle East countries. In this study, diurnal and seasonal locomotor and flight activity of melon weevil were investigated under ...

Recovery in environmental risk assessments at EFSA

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2016
EFSA performs environmental risk assessments (ERAs) for single potential stressors such as plant protection products, genetically modified organisms and feed additives and for invasive alien species that are harmful for plant health.

Minimal Polynomials in Finite Semifields [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Siberian Federal University. Mathematics & Physics, 2018
Summary: We consider the classical notion of a minimal polynomial and apply it to investigations in finite semifields. A proper finite semifield has non-associative multiplication, that leads to a number of anomalous properties of one-side-ordered minimal polynomials.

Dust drift during sowing of maize - effects on honey bees

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2012
Background: Bee poisoning incidents in southern Germany in 2008 revealed drift of insecticidal dusts of treated maize seed during sowing on adjacent areas with flowering bee forage plants as a considerable route of exposure.

On translation hyperovals in semifield planes

open access: yesDesigns, Codes and Cryptography
In this paper we demonstrate the first example of a finite translation plane which does not contain a translation hyperoval, disproving a conjecture of Cherowitzo. The counterexample is a semifield plane, specifically a Generalised Twisted Field plane, of order $64$. We also relate this non-existence to the covering radius of two associated rank-metric
