The discrete fragmentation equations : semigroups, compactness and asynchronous exponential growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we present a class of fragmentation semigroups which are compact in a scale of spaces defined in terms of finite higher moments. We use this compactness result to analyse the long time behaviour of such semigroups and, in particular, to ...

Representation of Numerical Semigroups by Dyck Paths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We introduce square diagrams that represent numerical semigroups and we obtain an injection from the set of numerical semigroups into the set of Dyck paths.Comment: Short ...

Skew Pairs of Idempotents in Partial Transformation Semigroups

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
Let S be a regular semigroup. A pair (e,f) of idempotents of S is said to be a skew pair of idempotents if fe is idempotent, but ef is not. T. S. Blyth and M. H. Almeida (T. S. Blyth and M. H.

Optimal polynomial decay of functions and operator semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We characterize the polynomial decay of orbits of Hilbert space C0-semigroups in resolvent terms. We also show that results of the same type for general Banach space semigroups and functions obtained recently in Batty and Duyckaerts (J Evol Eq 8:765–780,

Tarski Semigroups [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1977
A Tarski semigroup is an algebraic system which mirrors a fragment of the additive theory of cardinal numbers. Here we show that any two such systems have the same universal theory. We also give a simple arithmetical necessary and sufficient condition for a universal sentence to hold in a Tarski semigroup.

Tiling Semigroups

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2000
In earlier articles of the first author it was shown how to construct an inverse semigroup from any tiling of Euclidean space. Such semigroups are called tiling semigroups. In the paper a categorical basis for such constructions is given in terms of an appropriate group acting partially and without fixed points on an inverse category associated with ...

Rough semigroups and rough fuzzy semigroups based on fuzzy ideals

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2016
In this paper, we firstly introduce a special congruence relation U(μ, t) induced by a fuzzy ideal μ in a semigroup S. Then we define the lower and upper approximations based on a fuzzy ideal in semigroups. We can establish rough semigroups, rough ideals,

Flows on Classes of Regular Semigroups and Cauchy Categories

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2019
We consider the structure of the flow monoid for some classes of regular semigroups (which are special case of flows on categories) and for Cauchy categories.

C*-Algebras of algebraic dynamical systems and right LCM semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We introduce algebraic dynamical systems, which consist of an action of a right LCM semigroup by injective endomorphisms of a group. To each algebraic dynamical system we associate a C*-algebra and describe it as a semigroup C*-algebra.

Algebras of right ample semigroups

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2018
Strict RA semigroups are common generalizations of ample semigroups and inverse semigroups. The aim of this paper is to study algebras of strict RA semigroups.
