Systematically Engineering for Efficient Production of 3‐Methyl‐1‐Butanol in Escherichia coli

An integrated metabolic engineering strategy was established for high‐level 3‐methyl‐1‐butanol biosynthesis in Escherichia coli. Molecular dynamics‐guided semi‐rational engineering of dihydroxyacid dehydratase uncovered and relieved key catalytic bottlenecks, while adaptive laboratory evolution enhanced strain robustness.

Balancing moult, migration, and breeding in a long‐lived partially migrant raptor

Moult, breeding, and migration are the three major life‐history events in the annual cycle of birds. All are energetically demanding processes that rarely overlap. In large raptors such as the Egyptian vulture Neophron percnopterus, completing a full moult may take more than one year, requiring birds to balance this process with other life‐cycle events.

Changing Rainfall Drives Locally Asynchronous Reproduction of Tropical Birds via Modular Trophic Pathways

In low‐latitude mountains, we found insectivorous bird communities switched from breeding before to after the dry season at a threshold in dry‐season insects. Localized breeding season reversal of insectivores across wet‐to‐dry gradients magnified short‐term effects of drought and contrasted with the seasonal stability of nectar‐fruit consumers.
